UAE to build Quantur’s Town-to-Ground Quantum communications network

Two of the UAE’s technological entities – the Technological Institute of Innovation (TII) and Space42 – will work together to develop Quanturt’s Quantur for the country’s communication system, which includes satellite key systems and QKD).

TII, the applied research arm of the Abu Dhabi Technology Research Council and Space42, an AI-powered spacetech company, signed an agreement to this effect at the Dubai Airshow.

It represents a step forward in the UAE’s Quantum Communication Ambitions, laying the foundation for Ultra secure data exchange, strengthening cyber data resilience, and strengthening cyber leadership in the future of secure digital infrastructure in both digital infrastructure and local domains.

The two companies will work to develop, test state-of-the-art quantum key solutions (QKD), advanced exchange technology and distributed quantum mecham technology to ensure unparalleled data security.

Building on TII’s ongoing development of QKD solutions, the collaboration will focus on verifying and demonstrating quantum secure satellite communication links, paving the way for future commercialization of quantum secure space systems.

TII is a pioneering global research and development center focusing on applied research and innovative technology capabilities. The center has nine research centers on advanced materials, warm robotics, cryptography, ai and digital science, quantum, safe systems, renewable energy, and renewable and sustainable energy.

Dr Naajwa Aaraj, CEO of TII, commented: “This partnership with Space42 demonstrates Quantum’s deep expertise with Space42’s Advanced Space Infrastructure satellite network that strengthens the UAE’s sovereignty

“Together, we are putting the nation at the forefront of secure communication technologies that will shape the digital economy of the future.”

Formed in 2024 following the merger of Bayanat and Yahsat, area42 includes satellite communications, geospatial analytics and artificial intelligence capabilities. Its global reach allows it to address the rapidly evolving needs of its clients in government, businesses and communities.

Ali Al Hashemi, Chief Services Officer at Space42, added: “This collaboration with TII is embedded in QKD technology in the world, and strengthens the leadership of the next generation data security era.”

The agreement establishes a systematic framework for collaboration across R & D, payload development, satellite integration and infrastructure integration. It also shows important objectives related to the design, testing, validation, and degradation characterization of QKD technologies.
