Trump Orders DOJ to Investigate Meatpacking Companies Over Beef Prices

President Trump announced Friday that he directed the Department of Justice (DoJ) to launch an investigation into the major Meacpacking companies, accusing them of driving up beef prices with “Illecit Collening and price fixing.”
Concerned about social justice, Trump said the move was aimed at protecting American ranchers and consumers from what he described as foreign trade. “
“I have asked the DoJ to immediately begin investigating the meatpacking companies that are driving the price of beef through Illecit Collenion, price fixing,” the tariffs read. “We will always protect our American ranchers, and we are accused of what many of the meat producers are doing, who are seriously abusing the prices, and putting our nation’s food security at risk.”

Trump said action must be taken “immediately” to “protect consumers, and make sure these organizations don’t become a criminal disaster at the expense of the American people.”

“I’m asking the DoJ to act quickly,” he said.

In a separate social media post, Trump said that while cattle prices are down, the price of boxed beef is up — describing the situation as “fish.”
“While cattle prices are down, the boxed beef price is up – so, you know there’s ‘fish,'” Trump said. We will get to the bottom of it very quickly. If there is a crime, those responsible people will pay the outstanding price! “
Businesses may have to pass on higher beef prices to consumers
Following Trump’s comments, Attorney General Pam Bondi confirmed that an investigation is already underway.

“Our investigation continues!” Bondi sent to X. “My Struggle and Struggle Section [Abigail Slater] took the lead in collaboration with our friend [Secretary Brooke Rollins] in [the U.S. Department of Agriculture]. “
Beef prices are at an all-time high after a drought left cattle inventory at a 70-year low.

According to the latest consumer index data from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, beef and veal prices rose 14.7% year over year in September, while raw beef was up 12.9%.
