The Rayo Vallecano icon announces his exit from the club this summer

Rayo Vallecano star Oscar Trejo has announced that he will not be staying at the club at the end of the season. The former club captain has carved a place for himself in the heart of Vallecas in his ten seasons at the club.
Trejo first arrived in 2010 on loan from RCD Mallorca, spending a season in Segunda with the club, before spells at Sporting Gijon and Toulouse, before returning six years later in 2017 on a permanent basis. This time he helped Rayo to promotion, playing a leading role with 12 goals and five assists that season. He remained a key player for Segunda, helping Andoni Iraola take Rayo back to La Liga and stay there.
Trejo leaves behind a legacy
The 37-year-old player was the captain of the team, before he stepped down, a decision he took due to disagreements with President Raul Martin Presa. His willingness to listen to Rayo’s fans and put their views forward has earned him the respect of the fans, beyond his years of service and football.
In total, Trejo has spent ten seasons at the club in both divisions, playing 332 games, scoring 45 goals and providing 26 assists. Over the past two seasons, he’s seen his minutes drop, but Inigo Perez still calls him up regularly in the Conference League. Trejo has not publicly stated whether he will retire, but it is expected to be the case.
Oscar Trejo’s announcement in full
Trejo posted his farewell on his Instagram account.
“Today I write from the heart, with calmness and emotions.” Because saying goodbye to Rayo Vallecano is not just closing a chapter, it means saying goodbye to the most important part of my life.
I came here with dreams, and I’m going with a family, with unforgettable memories, and a story I never thought I could live. In this team, I grew as a football player, but above all, I grew as a person, as a husband and as a father. Vallecas has seen us laugh, suffer, celebrate, and bounce back time and time again.
I have had the privilege of experiencing unique moments: winning the title, reaching the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey, which will remain etched in our memories, and achieving three promotions that speak to the tireless spirit of this club. Being a foreign player who has appeared many times in this shirt is a source of pride that is hard to explain.
And as if football still wanted to give me something more, at the age of 37, I was able to fulfill a dream that seemed impossible: to play in Europe, not just with any team, but with the team of my life. Something I will never forget and cherish forever. I will carry this forever.
None of this would have been possible without my family. Thank you to my life partner, for walking beside me every step of the way, for silently supporting me, and believing in me even when I doubt myself. And thanks to my four children, my greatest victory. They grew up with these colors, understanding my absence, celebrating my joy, and giving me the strength to carry on every day. Everything I did on the field I did for you.
Thank you to my teammates, coaches, staff, and everyone who makes this club great from the inside. And thank you, from the bottom of my heart, to the fans of Rayo Vallecano. Your support, your personality, and your passion for football make this place unique.
I am walking in peace, I am proud to give my all and I am sure that this badge will always be a part of my life and my family.
It’s not goodbye. Until we meet again. Because Rayo Vallecano is not left behind… it is carried in the soul. Thank you for everything.
