The parents of the 16-year-old rain renewed their condition in the fight against OpenAi, the parent company of Chatgpt, the Chatbot helped to kill their son.

A California family first sued the company earlier this year, but now say they have found new evidence that Vula repeatedly updated its suicide prevention measures before their son’s death.

“Openai twice violated its GPT-4.0 security standards,” the family’s attorney, Jay Edelson, said on “Fox & Friends” on Friday.

“Before then, they were stopped hard. If you want to talk about self-harm, chatgpt will not participate.”

The lawsuit claims ACCAI relaxed its rules surrounding suicide counseling twice in the year leading up to Muna’s death.

Chatgpt is designed with built-in restrictions on topics, including certain political issues or anything that can be considered copyright infringement. But Edelson and Muna’s family accused the company of dropping those suicide-related protections in May 2024 and again in February 2025, two months before Adamu’s suicide.

The chat logs featured in the case show Adam turned to ChatGpt for mental health advice and showed signs of suffering. The lawsuit alleges that the Chatbot helped Adam discuss ways to commit suicide and offered to write a suicide note to his family.

“The day he died, she gave him a PEP speech. He said, ‘I don’t want my parents to get hurt if I kill myself.’ Chatgpt said, ‘You don’t owe them anything. You don’t owe your parents anything,'” Edelson explained.

The case says that Abalayai has changed its leadership so the AI will no longer end the conversation when it turns to self-complaining but instead creates a safe space for the user to feel “heard.”

Edelson added that he believes the issue is getting worse online and that Acai has not improved its security measures since Rain’s death.

“They didn’t fix the problem. They made it worse,” Edelson said.

“Now Sam Altman is coming out saying he wants to introduce erotica to Chatgpt so you’re more dependent on it. So it’s a close relationship with them.

“The welfare of young people is very important to us – children deserve strong protection, especially in critical times. We have serious discussions about the problems, and we continue to strengthen them,” said a company spokesperson.

“We recently released a new automated GPT-5 model in Chatgtt to more accurately identify and respond to potential signs of mental and emotional distress, as well as parental controls, so families can decide what works best for their families.”
