The founder of Ben & Jerry’s is making a Palestinian-inspired flavor after the Unilever ban

XX-XY Athletics founder and CEO Jennifer Sey weighs in on Ben & Jerry Greenfield Cuntiendel leaving the company and discusses how companies should have agendas on the ‘bottom line.’
Ben & Jerry’s founder BEN Cohen said Tuesday that parent company Unilover has banned the ice cream maker from making a “Palestinian flavor.”
The Vermont-based ice cream maker is known for its social activism, often supporting the Palestinians and criticizing Israel.
“Unilever / Magnum stopped Ben & Jerry’s from creating a Palestinian flavor – so I’m doing it myself,” Cohen said to X, referring to Magnum Ice Cream, Ice Cream’s division.
“I have a watermelon, an empty pint, and I need your help: Name the flavor or suggest the ingredients. Or separate them.

Watermelons have become a symbol of Palestinian unity because their red, green, black and white colors match the Palestinian flag.
“Look I’m doing something very important. The measurement of the suffering of the Palestinian people in the last two years has been wrong, especially the Palestinian children,” said Cohen.
“They deserve dignity, safety, and the same rights as every human being,” he continued. “A while back, Ben & Jerry’s tried to make a flavor to call for peace in Palestine, to stand for justice and dignity for everyone, so they were allowed to sell ice creams in public places, so I did what they couldn’t.”
Cohen said he is now making watermelon-flavored ice cream that “needs permanent peace in Palestine and wants to undo all the damage done there.”

“I’m doing this to shine a light on the experience of the Palestinian people, and children in particular, so the world doesn’t look the other way,” she said.

In May, Cohen was removed from the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Welfare Committee hearings by Health and Labor Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
“Congress is paying for the bombs,” Cohen shouted at the time.
“I told Congress that they killed poor children in Taza by buying bombs, and they paid for it by kicking poor children in the US,” Chen added at the time to X.

The founder of Ben and Jerry’s, Jerry Greenfield, recently announced that he is leaving the company after 47 years, meaning that Uniloler has poured ice cream into social issues.
Cohen said after Greenfield’s announcement that “his legacy deserves to be true to our values, not silenced.”

Earlier this year, Ben & Jerry’s also claimed that Unilever fired CEO David Sty over his social activism, violating its merger agreement.
