AFP reporters saw the 70-year-old – he appealed this decision – leave his home, and after calling the police, enter La Sante prison in the French Capital.
“You welcome Sarkozy!”, “Sarkozy here,” AFP reporters heard the convicts shouting in their cells.

Sarkozy was he handed down a five-year prison term in September to find a criminal conspiracy with this plan supported by the late Libyan dictator Qaddafi to support his election campaign. Qaddafi was killed In 2011 – the first leader was killed during the “Arab Spring” that shocked the Middle East like many countries of the uprising against the dictatorship.
After September 25 Devidy, Sarnozy had said that ‘he was going to sleep in prison – but my head is high.’
Many supporters and family members had been standing outside the former President’s home since earlier in the day, some holding pictures of him.
“Nicolas, Nicolas! Free Nicolas,” they shouted as he left his home, holding hands with his wife, singer Carla Bruni.
Earlier they had sung the French national anthem as neighbors looked on from their faces.
“This is a sad day for France and for democracy,” said Flora Amanou, 41.
Sarkozy’s lawyer says the release has already been filed
Christozy’s lawyer Christophe Ingrain said that the request was made immediately for Sarkozy’s release.

Sarkozy is the first French leader to be jailed since Philippe Pelain, the head of Nazi collaboration who was convicted after World War II.
Sarkozy told the newspaper Le Ficcio that he will be taking the history of Jesus and a copy of “The Count of Monte Cristo,” a novel in which an innocent person is sentenced to prison but escapes to take revenge.
Sarkozy Faces Single Detention
Sarkozy may have been held in the prison’s 95-foot cell in solitary confinement to avoid contact with other inmates, prison staff told AFP.
In solitary confinement, prisoners are allowed out of their cells to walk all day, in a small yard. Sarkozy will also be allowed to visit three times a week.
The former president of France who has become a legal wretch
Sarkozy has faced a flurry of legal woes since losing his 2012 election bid.
He was convicted of two other charges.
In another, he served a sentence of graft – for seeking to protect preferences in construction – under house arrest while wearing an electronic ankle tag, which was removed after a few months in May.
In another, France’s highest court will rule next month on a case against him accused of illegal financing in 2012.
In a book called “Libyan Case”, the prosecutors said that his players, making a deal with Sarkozy, attacked the deal with Qaddafi in 2005 to support his presidential election victory two years later.
Investigators believe in retribution, Qaddafi was promised help to restore his international image after Tripoli was accused in 1988 Bombing of a passenger jet over LockerbieIn Scotland, and another over Niger in 1989, they killed hundreds of passengers.

The court convicted him of criminal construction on the scheme, but it did not conclude that Sarkozy received or used the money for his campaign.
He was found guilty of crimes of public funds cleansing the Libyans, fraud and illegal financing of the election campaign.
Sarkozy had failed the great distinction of France, his legion of honor, following the previous conviction.
Six out of 10 people in France believe a prison sentence is “good,” according to a survey of more than 1,000 adults conducted by Polter Elabe. But Sarkozy still enjoys support from the French right and has occasionally held private meetings with President Emmanuel Macron.
Macron welcomed Sarkozy at the Elysee Palace on Friday, telling reporters this week: “It was normal, on a human level, for me to find one of my predecessors in this context.”
