The authorities are convinced that Henry is responsible for the disappearance and death of the young boy years ago, but he had a strong alibi when he was initially questioned. Not A Whodunit, But A “How Do We Find Him?”
As A stranger moving on to its second and third act, you can see that the case is facing a lot of pressure on all the police officers involved in the sting operation. They know they have the right guy, but they have no proof. They have nothing to work with but old traffic cameras, log sheets, anecdotes from onlookers in the area, and witness testimony. They know Henry is committing a crime, but if he doesn’t die by rights when they bring him in, he’s gone. Mark knows this, and so does Kate Rylett.
The tension comes from knowing what they know and watching them bide their time until they finally have enough evidence to lock up Henry Peter Teague for good. The problem is that everyone is at their wits end after spending years in this case trying to get the right man convicted. Everyone has a trigger finger and wants to use it. Everyone wants to slap the heroes on the man they believe, without a doubt, to be the culprit, but they need to restrain themselves if they want the operation to succeed.
