Small Business Saturday encourages shoppers to support local

Small business administrator Kelly Loeffler tauts how Donald Trump’s economic policies create jobs and benefit small businesses in ‘Kudlow.’
After many Americans go big on Thanksgiving and Black Friday, the following Saturday is still a time for small shopping.
Every year during the first weekend after Thanksgiving, Small Business Saturday encourages consumers to spend their holiday spending money on small businesses – the backbone of the US economy.
“With the economy rebounding from the top forty, there’s never been a better time to buy small to support local businesses,” Smarfun Business Administration (SBA) Administrator Kelly Loeffler said in a statement.
Small businesses employ about half of the private sector’s workforce and generate about half of US GDP, Loeffler noted.

“When we as consumers participate in small business Saturday, we are investing in the workers and creators of Jobe who have the greatest power in the communities,” he said. “This Christmas season, SBA is asking every American to join us in key ways to support the small businesses that make our country strong.”
Created by American Express and sponsored by the SBA, the shopping holiday is a critical revenue driver for 36 of the nation’s small businesses.
Since its launch in 2010, Small Business Saturday has generated more than $220 billion for restaurants, independent retailers and service-based businesses, according to the SBA.

Small business owners expect about 20% of their annual sales to come from small business Saturdays alone. Last year, consumers spent nearly $22 billion at local retailers on shopping day, according to the SBA.
The state with the largest number of small businesses is California with approximately 4.3 million, followed by Texas and Florida with 3.5 million each, and New York and Pennsylvania with 1.2 million.
Those with the fewest small businesses include Alaska with 77,814, North Dakota with 78,219, Vermont with 81,949, and Wyoming and COLUMBIA with 82,666.

In an appearance on Fox News Channel’s “fox & friends” on Friday, Loffler added that small business policies are now at a seven-year high – put in place under President Trump.
“Small businesses are headed this year thanks in large part to President Trump’s economic agenda that provides for tax cuts, flexibility, and fair trade,” he said. “And now we’re seeing consumer spending in this period being expressed in the trillions of dollars for the first time.”
