Ando, the 1995 Pritzker Architecture Prize

Among Ando’s notable projects are the Chichu Art Museum, the Bourse de Commerce in Paris, France, and the modern Fort Art Museum in Texas, USA.

The Dubai Museum of Art (Duma) will feature an architectural design, one-of-a-kind architecture. It combines the context of the local culture that focuses on the risk of modern construction and emphasizes the important qualities of symbolic meaning, the powerful dimension of people, the powerful intention of artists and art developers, the sensory experience that transcends the physical space.

Rising five stories above the water, the Museum will include flexible exhibition paintings across the first and second, a restaurant and VIP and VIP on the third floor level, as well as underground and basement levels.

In addition to exhibitions, the museum will host artist talks, panel discussions, educational programs, and artwork. Purpose-built event spaces will enable a curated calendar of cultural events that encourage learning, discussion, and innovation.

The promise of al-futtaim group

Omar Al Fututaim, Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of AL-Futtaim Group, said: “It is part of the creation of that Sheikhi Bhehamed Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum to Sign and Hub Global Custom.

“For us, the Dubai Museum of Arts is more than a world building; it is a cultural statement that demonstrates Dubai’s openness to diversity and affirms its role in connecting cultures and celebrating talent from around the world.

“We are especially proud to entrust the design of the Duma to the world-renowned architect Tadao Arowno, a native who speaks of the art program as a master of art and timeless sentiments, fully adhering to his deep philosophy.

“The al-futtaim group remains dedicated to delivering this brilliant vision of beauty, which reflects our enduring commitment to innovation and a critical role in the cultural sector in shaping inclusive progress.”

The design is inspired by the sea and the pearl, symbols of Dubai’s heritage and atmosphere. The curved shell of the museum houses a circular exhibition hall. The central cylindrical opening allows natural light to cascade through the structure, evoking the gentle shimmer of the pearl.
