RTA launches AI-enabled transport lab to manage congestion across Dubai

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched a Transport Data Analysis Laboratory at its Enterprise Command and Control Center (EC3), strengthening the emirate’s ability to monitor traffic conditions, anticipate congestion and respond quickly to transport challenges.

The new laboratory will collect, monitor and analyze large amounts of transport data, producing specialized studies and reports to support decision-making at both strategic and operational levels. The RTA said the initiative will improve preparedness for transport planning, major events and emergencies, while strengthening Dubai’s position as a smart city and a global leader in sustainable mobility.

The laboratory plays an important role in developing the function of EC3 as an integrated strategic platform linking the various regulatory agencies of the RTA. By integrating operational monitoring within a single system, the facility uses artificial intelligence technology and predictive models to analyze situations, provide effective solutions and improve response times during major events and peak activity periods.

Mohammed Al Ali, Director of the Enterprise Command and Control Centre, said the laboratory represents a major change in RTA’s operational analysis capabilities. “It strengthens the integration between monitoring systems and artificial intelligence and turns large operational data into predictive indicators that support accurate and fast decisions,” he said.

“These indicators contribute to smoother traffic flow, higher efficiency and improved sustainability of the transport system across the emirate,” Al Ali added, noting that the scheme supports RTA’s vision of safe, seamless and sustainable travel.

Real-time data drives traffic solutions

The Transportation Data Analysis Laboratory is provided with real-time data from more than 35 sources covering multiple modes of transportation, including buses, metro, tram, sea transportation, taxis, limousines, transit options and private cars. It also creates more than 150 operational performance indicators, improving the coordination, efficiency of planning and evaluation of transport policies.

The RTA said the laboratory has already been used to analyze traffic flow during major events, including GITEX 2025, to identify areas of congestion and support measures to improve traffic flow in exhibition areas. The data generated will inform the planning of future events and season peaks.

The center also contributed to the identification of areas with a high probability of recurring traffic accidents, which enabled remedial measures to be implemented in collaboration with the relevant authorities. The RTA said this data-driven approach will help improve road safety and ensure smooth traffic on all Dubai roads.
