Rivian cars It announced Thursday that it has developed its first chip in-house to power next-generation self-driving technology in its electric vehicles (evs).
The company’s new chip, called the Rivian Autoney processor, will improve the ability of Rivian cars to process the data needed for advanced levels of autonomous driving – such as data from cameras, limbidar and other sensors.
AI Power Rivian’s Autoney Platform AI Chip, which will also be informed by end-to-end training data AI-powered self-driving software. The company aims to reach Level 4 (L4), which allows the vehicle to operate without human input in certain situations.
“Our updated platform, which includes our 1000 chip top 1600 sparse top, will enable us to achieve incredible progress in self-driving to be able to deliver L4,” said Rivia founder and CEO RJ Scaringe. “This represents a place to bring in the ownership experience – finally being able to give customers their time back when they’re in the car.”

Rivian created a large driving model (LDM), to serve as a training model based on autonomous vehicles as a large language model (LLM) that large language conversations (LLM) are Chatbots and other AI platforms. LDM will take those big things to develop Independent driving strategies.
Software upgrades for Rivian’s second-generation R1 cars are expected to be released soon, including the inclusion of Universal Hand-Free (UHF), which will allow Hands Free Driving the occurrence of more periods of time in more places.
UHF will be available on more than 3.5 million miles of roads in the US and Canada, and is also capable of highway operation on roads with clearly painted lines.

The automaker also announced the creation of Autonomy+, a subscription to Rivian’s autonomous services that will be expanded further as technology advances.
Autonomy + will be launched in early 2026 and will be available at a price of $ 2,500 for a one-time purchase, or $ 49.99 per month.
“These features have the potential to make roads safer, meet customer demand and become real business drivers,” Rivian said in its announcement.

The company’s announcement also includes plans to make further improvements to the autonomous capabilities of the second-generation R1 and future vehicles, including a POINT-to-Point autonomous driving trajectory.
