Police in Dubai are launching new road safety measures as the number of accidents rises
Dubai Police has announced three special strategies aimed at improving road safety and reducing road accidents across Dubai, in collaboration with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and other key stakeholders.
The strategies were explained during the inspection visit by Lieutenant General Abdulla khalifa Al Marri, Commander in Chief of Dubai Police, in the general traffic department.
Dubai Police can unveil new road safety plans
New strategies focus on integrated safety systems through RTA, a comprehensive approach to risk reduction and the development of a safe and sustainable traffic environment.
Senior officials tend to Al Marri with great success so far, including Acting Actar, the international organization of the Accreditation Commission for Traffic Accident Reconstruction, and getting approval from a very positive perspective.
Four Actar experts were also confirmed as part of efforts to strengthen the capacity of experts in accident investigation.
The traffic department has highlighted several projects in progress, such as a working room and the registration of 20 safe psychological activities. Future approaches include a better system with unity to control violations, the wasl project to improve digital communication with local partners, a new digital platform and a driver management monitoring system.
Dubai Police is also developing area 56, a fully digital area designed to support traffic operations.
The authorities noted that the population of Dubai, estimated at 8.55 million in the year 2024, continues to be a pressure point in the transport network. Last year recorded 157 fatalities, with major causes including sudden skidding, failure to maintain a safe distance, inattention, yielding to live lanes and running red lights.
Targeted campaigns aim to reduce violations
Awareness efforts have reached more than twenty million people, and social campaigns have produced more than one point eight thousand. Dubai Police has also improved regional communication by activating the electronic integration of traffic systems in all GCC countries, enabling the exchange of information and the speedy enforcement of violations.
Targeted campaigns focused on motorcycle riders, carried out by public and private partners, led to a 19.4 percent increase in recorded violations, reaching 27,353 cases in 2024.
The Department acknowledged that ongoing challenges are linked to population growth, rising car numbers and the expected introduction of self-driving cars. Authorities say they are preparing solutions that support the 2033 police vision of zero Road fabulalities.
Police Lieutenant General Al Marri praised the progress made and affirmed the Force’s commitment to good planning, strong partnerships, continuous technology and continuous awareness of Dubai’s leadership as a global leader in road safety and innovation.
