Player Ratings for Barcelona vs. Guadalajara: Andreas Christensen closes the match with a goal

Barcelona defeated third-tier Guadalajara at Pedro Escartin on Tuesday night, with a 2-0 win that came in the closing stages of a hard-fought game.
Marc-Andre ter Stegen – 6.5
First time back seven months after back surgery, but you can’t go wrong here. One difficult pass from Jofre Torrents gave the ball away, but he was sharp enough to deal with two late goal attempts.
Marc Casado – 5.5
Funnily enough, Hansi Flick said before the game that Casado’s best position was in midfield when he was asked if he could be used at right back – before playing him at right back. Casado was not too poor, but added little to their distribution of the ball.
Eric Garcia – 6
Protected without problems in the first half, before being moved back to right back and then to midfield. He threw away two excellent headed chances that Garcia felt he should have done better with.
Andreas Christensen – 8
As he was named in defence, Christensen defended well and his ball handling was good when he was in front of the bank guards, spreading it quickly. Done i a crucial interception to prevent Guadalajara from scoring, then driving home the crucial goal, albeit assisted by a defender.

Jofre Torrents – 6.5
A competent performance without impressing. It wouldn’t do much for his chances of more minutes in the first team, and he seems confused about the lack of running space. Changed after 63 minutes.
Frenkie de Jong – 6.5
He came up with a good assist from Christensen, but he wasn’t very visible in front of Guadalajara’s good defense. Flick may have wanted more momentum from the Dutchman.
Marc Bernal – 6.5
A couple of good touches, Bernal looked to be successful, but he received an early yellow card. Substituted at half-time, Flick noticed that Bernal was still a little behind.
Roony Bardghji – 5.5
He had a good free-kick flying wide, but Bardghji was denied. He struggled to combine with Lamine Yamal, and the times he took on a defender, he couldn’t get past them.

Lamine Yamal – 7
He started in the 10th round, before moving on to the second half. Despite being frustrated most of the time, Lamine Yamal was relentless in his efforts to demolish Guadalajara. He got a bit of a shock with his perfect assist for Marcus Rashford late on.
Fermin Lopez – 7
A somewhat frustrating night for Fermin, but he had a good effort in the first half just after the whistle. In the second half, he was denied only by a brilliant shot. Workmanlike performance out of position, Fermin brought the fight needed in a match like this.
Marcus Rashford – 6.5
Losing a bit of competition, Rashford lacked space and service for most of the match. The moment he got to the ball, he probably tried one touch too many of the number players around him, and he couldn’t convert an opportunity early in the second half, but he redeemed himself with a fine finish in stoppage time.
What you are holding
Pau Cubarsi – 7
The sharpest of Barcelona’s defenders not named Christensen, Cubarsi was there to collect many chances after coming on for Bernal.
Alejandro Balde – 6
Failed to make the cut in the last half hour of the game.
Jofre Torrents: “I felt free to do what I know how to do. Playing with Barça is a dream; at the beginning, I was nervous, yes. I’m happy. These games are difficult because they all come out.”

Jules Kounde – 6.5
A few good passes forward, he had time to almost create his own defensive problems by giving up.
Peter – 7
I haven’t had time to do much, but Barcelona always looks different, smarter, and tougher than him on the pitch.
Gerard Martin – N/A
Open for four minutes.
