NYC’s new Socialist Mayor has hit business woes with expensive plans

Panelists join ‘Fox Business in depth: The social threat and the future of capital’ to discuss how the election of Zohran Mamdani as Mayor of New York City can influence.
New York City’s newly elected mayor promised sweeping reforms when he took office, including rent-free employment and free childcare. But his pro-democracy messages, critics say, have put some Yorkers on edge.
City Councilor Oman Inna Vernikov, whose family fled the Soviet Union, said she was “absolutely devastated” by what she called a facelift.
“The former Soviet Union was a communist country, and we fled here in the 80s and 90s with capitalism, because it is a free economy,” said the American economist as part of the panel: Social threat and the future of capitalism. “

“We became doctors, we became lawyers. I am a member of the government in the largest city in the world, and the idea that everything we escape is coming here is absolutely unbelievable,” he added.

Zohran Mamdani, a self-described democrat, was tipped to be in the mayoral race on election night. He won what was Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Republican Noninee Curtis Sliwa.
His platform included a Rent Freeze, free public buses, universal child care and a pilot program for grocery stores in city stores everywhere.

The price tag of these programs has business leaders wondering how Mamdani will pay for them.

“It’s something [going to] It’s been more difficult,” entrepreneur John Catsimatididis told Fox Business’ David Asman.
Catsimatidis has spoken repeatedly about Mamdani, threatening to move his restaurant chain, Gristede, out of town.

Marcus Lemonis, the CEO of the country of tents, also expressed concern about businesses operating in New York City, although he accepted the distribution as something that is of great concern to the American people.
“Affordability is an issue everywhere. It’s not just New York City, it’s from Seattle to Minneapolis to Chicago to Chicago to wherever you can,” Lemomoni said.

A FOX News Poll found that the sale of money was the main reason Mamdani rose to victory. 56% of voters felt that the cost of living was the most important issue facing New York City. It was followed by crime at 22% and migration at 9%.
