High taxes, rising taxes and an overall increase in the cost of living are causing some New Yorkers to look for a new home outside of the big apple.

But, they don’t go far.

Economists at Realtor.com identified the top areas that were most interested among residents in all five boroughs – Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx and Staten Island. The data analysis covers the third quarter of 2025, from July to September, before Zohran Mamdani was elected Mayor of the city.

New York State, New Jersey and Pennsylvania were among the top states with the most reviewed listings on REATOR.com.

New York State, outside the city, drew the most attention from New Yorkers, accounting for more than 14% of out-of-town listing views. New Jersey followed closely behind with 12.9%, according to the data. Pennsylvania slightly trailed Florida, with 10.7% viewership. Currently, the list of Florida is calculated at 10.4%.

The data showed that trends are driven in large part by prices. Realtor.com Analyst Hannah Jones told FOX Business that high taxes and home values ​​are driving many BIG Apple residents to look beyond the city limits in their search for Home Chounininiship.

“Recent home buying performance suggests that buyers are looking for more space and value for their money, while still wanting to remain within reach of the economic and cultural ideals that New York represents,” Jones said.
