California authorities released new surveillance footage Friday of a 9-year-old boy who the FBI said was with his mother on a road trip “all the way to Nebraska” before disappearing.
The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office said its investigation into the disappearance of the melodee buzzard began on Oct. 14, after the school principal reported that he was absent. Deputies then responded to her home in Longoc and met her 35-year-old mother, also known as Ashlee Buzzard, although “melodee was not at home, and there is no definite explanation as to where she is.”
“As part of this update, detectives are sharing surveillance photos of Melodee at a local car rental business on October 7. In the photo, the Sheriff’s Office looks more like her natural hair. “Investigators believe a wig may have been used to disguise her appearance. Investigators also noted that Ashlee is known to wear wigs.”
“Through their ongoing investigation, investigators have narrowed down a rough timeline between October 7th and 2025. Investigators have confirmed that Ashlee was seen returning to her Lompac home on October 7th – But Melodee was not in the car,” the Sheriff’s office said.

“Investigators understand that this three-day trip went from Longoc to the Nebraska area, with the return trip including the state of Kansas. It was the sleeves where Melodee was at that time,” he said.
Melodee Buzzz is described by police as being around 4 feet tall and weighing 60 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.

The FBI Angeles’s Forses office is assisting in the search.
“Investigations indicate that Melodee was with her mother as recently as October 7, 2025. It has also been determined that Ashlee may have been deported from MEBRORARA County, California, to include the state of Nebraska,” the agency said. “The car was intended to be a rental car and is no longer in Ashlee’s possession.”
