Mamdani’s progressive agenda runs into trouble as the hochul opposes the mountains of taxes

During the meeting in Queens on Sunday, Gov. Kathy Hochul, Dn.Y., cleared Zohran Mamdani’s supporters, who know him ironically as “the rich!”
Zohran Mamdani is headed to City Hall after Tuesday’s mayoral victory on Tuesday, but delivering on his ambitious agenda could depend on the battle in Albany.
The 34-year-old Democrat’s plan is to reduce costs in New York City by using city-owned stores, but any tax consideration requires the approval of New York’s tax authorities, and GN.Y.
Mamdani campaigned to create an income tax for New York City for anyone making more than $1 million a year and raise the Top Corporate Tax rate to 11.5% to match Jerseys to pay for his campaign promises.
But the mayor of New York City does not have the authority to raise taxes. Under New York State Law – and in accordance with Article XVI of the constitution of New York – Only the state legislature is in charge of taxation, which means that the city cannot create new taxes or change existing rates without approval from the legislature and the Governor in Albany.

Hochul did not respond to a Fox News Digital inquiry Wednesday about whether he is thinking about the tax now that Mamdani is set to become the next Mayor of New York City.
‘TABLE THE RICH!’: Mamdani steps up to protect hochul after heckle governor at NYC Rally
During Mamdani’s Elective Party in Brooklyn on Tuesday, the New York City crowd began chanting, “pay tribute! When Hochul’s photo appeared on the big screen during NY1’s election night broadcast.
It was the latest example of pressure growing in hochul to raise taxes, so Mamdani could bring it to his campaign agenda.
Last week, Hochul told FOX News Hostry Tarlov on his podcast, “inspiring hosts,” that “that powerful meeting” will not influence him to change his position. He said he had to protect New Yorkers who already support the state budget.
“I can’t do that with a middle class tax increase. I can’t do that for the middle class and the hard increases,” Hochul said.

Mamdani defended the hochul last week after his supporters boycotted him with ‘rich tax!’ When he presented the words during the high-profile “New York is not for sale” in Sundaens, through Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Sen.y.
“Whenever I talk to the governor, I always come back to accessibility, and we both made it clear that that is the defining goal of our politics, and that’s what we’re going to present,” the journalists said.
But Mamdani’s supporters, knowing Hochul had been unwilling to repeat the tax, interrupted his words, shouting, “Take out the rich!” The Chants forced Mamdani to leave the stage early and take his hand to strengthen His support for the governor.
“I hear you,” Hochul replied as the arena erupted in chant.
Hochul told reporters last week that he knows there is a “passion” to raise taxes on Corporations and the top 1% of Yorkers.
When pressed by a reporter if he agreed to change his mind about raising taxes, Hochul said, “I have a lot of discussions about everything.”
“They want to know my timeline. I said let’s get through this election. Let’s focus on your race,” Hochul added, explaining that he wanted to attend Sunday’s meeting as the leader of a diverse democratic party.

He also said that he was not sure what the hecklers meant. I couldn’t hear what they were singing. I thought they were saying, ‘Let’s go, we’re going to be in debt.’ I wasn’t sure,” Hochul said.
“I enjoyed the governor speaking at the Assembly yesterday,” Mamdani said when asked about them. “I appreciated his words. I appreciate his support for universal child care, which he has always looked up to.”
Hochul was initially reluctant to praise Mamdani but later accepted the Democratic Socialio and joined the campaign.

Mamdani still has to allow hochul to be re-elected, where he may face off against Rep. Elise Stefanik, rn.y.
“Kathy Hochul and Communie Mamdani are literally destroying New York,” Stefanik said Tuesday night after Mamdani won the mayoral election.
The Mamdani campaign did not immediately respond to Fox News Pigital’s phedyry’s conclusion.
