LARRY KUDLOW: Trump’s liberalism is consistent with the Monroe Doctrine

In case you missed it, President Trump recently revived the Monroe Doctrine, with a clear legal case, and a well-executed military action to take out a Venezuelan communist strongman and his wife. I believe that Mr. Trump is absolutely right to bend history and bring it back to freedom. It is a great and admirable work. Here is the explanation of Mr. Trump about it.

Asked by a reporter “If you had to sum up Operation Absolute Resolve, would you say it’s about oil or about regime change?” The president replied: “It’s about peace on Earth.” The reporter followed: “How is peace in the world?” The answer of Mr. Trump said: “World peace. You should have peace. It’s our country. The Monroe Doctrine was very important when it was made. And other presidents, many of them, lost sight of it. I didn’t lose sight. But really. Peace in the world.” Peace on Earth, I think that’s the perfect way to put it.

Personally, I think this was a landmark move by Mr. And I think it will change the course of history, not only in the Western Hemisphere, but in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. Mr. Trump shows incredible power in America. He is a straight-talking, common-sense president who speaks what he believes, and then takes action. There is no room for communism, war or narco-terrorism in this country. Maduro was warned, he didn’t listen, and he paid the price.

As in the bombing of Iran’s nuclear facilities, Al-Baghdadi or Soleimani is taken out. Mr Trump warned, then acted, and changed history. And you do it again. And it’s a really big deal. And it makes America strong again. And it helps erase the stain of Biden in Afghanistan. Another failure.

However, for those who may not have met him, President Monroe in his seventh annual message to Congress, on December 2, 1823, issued a clear warning to European powers that the United States will not tolerate the continuation of colonialism, or puppet masters. The Monroe Doctrine has stood the test of time and has been invoked by many American presidents over the years.

Most notably, Theodore Roosevelt in the Dominican Republic in 1904, Nicaragua in 1911, and Haiti in 1915. John F. Kennedy applied the Monroe Doctrine to the Cuban missile crisis in 1962. President George HW Bush used it in 1990 in Panama to remove Manuel Noriega. But since then, presidents have moved slowly in the face of invasion, even colonialism from China, Russia, Cuba, Iran, Hezbollah, and other enemies.

More recently, they have all gathered in the anti-American rat’s nest in Venezuela, where the Cuban military and secret police have taken over the government and, to a large extent, the rest of the country. Venezuela has lost three quarters of its economy and most of its oil production. However, Hugo Chavez, and his successor Mr. Maduro, they have never cared about their destruction of the people of their country.

Narco-terrorism and the export of cocaine was the point of Mr. And so he introduced legislative action backed by incredible military power to stop the rot in Venezuela. Now to stop the rot in Venezuela, it will have a big impact on Colombia, and Brazil, and maybe Cuba, and maybe around the world. The going may be difficult, as far as democratization in Venezuela is concerned over time. And Mr Trump has even threatened a second wave. Yet I believe he will do whatever it takes to clean up the drug-ridden communist estates in our backyard, to ensure that history aligns with the American values of freedom and prosperity that will benefit all people.
