La Liga Transfer Round-Up: Ex-Celta Vigo wonderkid set to return, Sevilla star earns Sunderland interest

A roundup of the latest happenings in the transfer window, as La Liga clubs look to add to their squads in January.
Celta Vigo
Celta Vigo are close to a loan deal with Wolves for former striker Fer Lopez, according to Diario AS. The 21-year-old moved to the Premier League six months ago for €23 million, but has struggled to settle. It remains to be seen whether the deal will be for six or 18 months, but Lopez appeared to confirm that by posting on Instagram wearing a Celta shirt, with the song ‘Homecoming’ playing over it.
Departing is USMNT midfielder Luca de la Torre, who ended his loan spell with San Diego FC, and will join Charlotte FC in a €300 million deal. After arriving in 2022 for 1.4 million euros from Heracles Almelo, he played 67 games, scored four goals and provided nine assists.
Osasuna
After signing Javi Galan from Atletico Madrid, Marca say Las Palmas defender Mika Marmol is their next target. The 24-year-old is out of contract this summer.
Rayo Vallecano
Atletico Madrid striker Carlos Martin is expected to leave this transfer window, with Diario AS reporting that Rayo are favorites to sign him.
RCD Mallorca
As explained by Marca, RCD Mallorca are looking for a right winger who can give them natural width. It would help with Jagoba Arrasate’s switch from 3 back to 4-2-3-1, with Jan Virgili on the left.
Real Betis
In addition to looking at an exit for Cedric Bakambu, MD notes that goalkeeper Adrian San Miguel and left back Ricardo Rodriguez are also likely to leave. All three are out of contract this summer.

The real Oviedo
After bringing in midfielder Nicolas Fonseca, Real Oviedo have terminated the loan of Salomon Rondon early, after a difficult first half of the season, as announced by the club. The 36-year-old has struggled to score two goals in 16 games, and is returning to Pachuca in Mexico.
Fellow striker Alex Fores, who arrived from Villarreal in the summer, is also set to leave to join Leganes on loan with an option to buy, according to Marca. The third is Brandon Domingues, who joined Gornik Zabrze from Poland on a season-long loan.

Sevilla
Sevilla’s goalkeeper, Alvaro Fernandez, has left the club to join Deportivo. He did this for free, signing an 18-month contract with the Galician club. ABC, via MD, explains that star player Ruben Vargas is attracting interest from Bournemouth, Leeds United and Sunderland. Los Nervionenses intend to offer at least €20-25m to break away.
In terms of arrivals, striker Elye Wahi does not look like he will sign for Sevilla. The Eintracht Frankfurt man was wanted by Sevilla, but is in talks to return to Ligue 1 with OGC Nice, L’Equipe says.
Villarreal
Villarreal have agreed to terminate the contract of right back Adria Altimira. He joined in 2023, and spent last season on loan at Leganes, but is now set to switch to Deportivo La Coruna.
