James Gunn reveals the biggest superman failure of zack Snyder’s Superman

By Chris SnellGrove | Being published

Since James Gunn made decisions as CO-CEO of DC Studios, he was generally very kind about the failures of zack Snyder and the DCEU. However, in the book Superman: Art and Filmmakingadmits to one thing he sees as a failing of past Superman films: the lack of color. While he didn’t mention the other man by name, it seems pretty clear in the following quote that Gunn is outing Zack Snyder, whose films like The man of steel and Batman v. Superman they were disappointing in their molded and refined appearance.

Color space

In the book, Sunn said, “I felt like there was a place for color, and an old-school look that was missing from the movies.” Later, he said, “There’s just things you know we’re doing with the DCU that I think is different than other people have done before in terms of creating a whole universe.” This is connected to his desire to do his own thing Awesome movie felt more like Grant Morrison’s All-star supermanwho had a “sweet and … Color” and a “kind of silver science backs that felt.”

Also, James Gunn doesn’t call Zack Snyder by name or anything. But when he says his colorful approach is “different than that some people“(Emphasis Mine)” They had done it before, “It’s impossible not to think about the obviously washed-out look Enemy the director was brought to the DCEU with movies like The man of steel or Batman v. Superman. Unfortunately, if there was any doubt that Snyder hated making movies in color, look no further than the color correction that happened after he left the production of The Justice League.

Dark(er) knight

When Joss Whedon took over the illusionary duties of The Justice Leagueone of the first things he does to lighten up the darkest scenes is that the snaps are already hanging. This was not a wise decision, of course, since artificially lit scenes look very God awful (as evidenced by the Snyder Cut, the director who hates color released a special kind of white and white). But Whedon flashed colors only on the decoration of Warner Bros., who wanted a The Justice League It’s a much lighter film (literally and literally) than Snyder’s most polished Batman v. Superman.

Production AwesomeJames Gunn basically took a different approach to color: while Snyder wanted his films to look dark and shiny, Gunn wanted Superman to evoke the bright future of the ‘8s and ’60s. It was a brilliantly successful technique, giving this DCU Premiere film a comic flourish unlike any other comic book movie ever made. Audiences have responded in a big way, and they are transforming Awesome in the solo supe supes film so far.

Generally, Gunn is a class act, and it is impossible to call the director of Zack Snyder without a name. But he entered the humble pages of Superman: Art and FilmmakingGunn indirectly admitted to something that many of us have been crying out for years together: That Snyder’s dreary filmmaking is a perfect fit for Superman, one of the most colorful and hairy superheroes ever created. With Gunn at the helm, the DCU can hopefully continue to do something the DCEU has consistently failed to do: Go up, up, and out of the box office.
