Star Trek fans around the world have been enjoying a privilege Americans have long lost: watching their beloved franchise on Netflix. In the United States, the stream has lost these rights over the years, but it remains the best place for fans in places like Canada, the UK, and beyond to keep going boldly, one episode at a time. Unfortunately, Netflix worldwide is losing one Story Trek show in the new year, forcing fans to watch the show via streaming+ or services like Pluto TV.
Here in America, Star Trek’s Netflix Exodus began in 2021 and continued in 2022, which was part of a larger effort to force fans to subscribe to Paramoust. +. However, the franchise has continued to be broadcast on Netflix around the world since then, but that’s all going to change on January 9. That’s the day that should be removed with a series of parts of the entire platform, which is very inclusive of what is considered to be the golden years of the franchise.
What was removed?
On January 9th, international Netflix subscribers will lose access to it Star Trek: The Original Series, Star Trek: The Picture Series, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: The Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Voyageragain Star Trek: Enterprise. Some of these shows are better than others (personally, I think DS9 is the best series ever made), but collectively they represent the best sci-fi franchise ever created.
Until recently, fans in other countries could count on Netflix as the defining streaming site for nearly four decades of defining television.
Netflix subscribers in other countries are losing six Trek stars on January 9th, which may seem like a lot to the viewer. Collectively, however, this represents 30 seasons of television and an astounding 717 episodes. Big fans of the franchise are sad to lose such quality content, especially when their other best way to save wanted episodes is to switch to paramoust
Where else can I stream Star Trek besides Paramount+?
If you’re strapped for cash or just don’t want to subscribe to paramous+, you can always watch Star Trek on Pluto TV, a free, ad-supported streaming service. It allows you to watch a rotating selection of on-demand episodes or watch episodes from livestreams dedicated to specific shows.
Obviously, commercials can get a little annoying, but ad-supported Livestream replicates the feeling of watching these shows on TV back in the day, and this is the perfect way to watch a show without having to find out which episode of the series you want.
Will Star Trek return to Netflix?
While it’s unlikely that Star Trek will return to Netflix, it’s not something we’ve been betting on. Netflix was already competing with Paramount to buy Warner Bros. Behind the scenes, it is possible that those things chosen by the Studios are angry, and it is difficult to imagine that the paramoust will want to share its most famous IP or that Netflix will want to give the star more exposure.
In many ways, Star Trek: Prodigy it was a canary in the coal mine: from the beginning, Netflix went out of its way to save the show, to allow fans to see the second season if there were plans to exist. But after season 2 ended, Netflix failed to renew the show, and it soon left the stream. Now, the franchise is getting better for fans all over the world, the paramount that aims for Star Trek Revival may have died, and it may be the failure of all the legal drama about warner bros.) may take the studio with it.
