How Emirates is turning to AI to manage the risk of in-flight chaos

Emirates is turning to AI to take on the growing challenge of chaotic evacuations, as weather-driven weather patterns become more frequent.

The Dubai-based airline said it is working with global partners to develop AI, machine learning, and real-time flight information to improve safety and enhance the passenger experience on its network.

The initiative has already led to a significant reduction in negative incidents of unexpected turbulence over the past year, according to Emirates.

Emirates fears reduced chaos

Captain Hassan Alhammadi, ChaturAl High Pice Persio Meent Operations at Emirates, said the airline is determined to reduce turbulence using advanced technology and cooperation.

He said: “We realize that the disorder remains an ongoing challenge that cannot be completely eliminated, but we are committed to doing everything possible to reduce our technology that uses our technology to use advanced technology”.

He added that the systems are already bringing tangible benefits, saying “While we can’t promise free flights to the bases after the turmoil last year, we help make travel safer and more comfortable for our customers.”

Alhammadi noted that Emirates’ multidisciplinary approach, including participation in the important IATA Stuence Surties program, provides valuable information and insight to the aviation industry as airlines face meteorological challenges around the world.

Three corpse recovery plan

Emirates’ weather setup includes Skpath, Lido MPIlot from Lufthansa’s systems, and the IATA Stubbrence System, creating an integrated system that includes AI Analytics, Pilot feedback, and real-time data.

  • 1. SkyPath: In collaboration with Skypath, Emirates is developing AI- and machine-based weather models that detect traffic patterns that are often missed by traditional methods.
Skypath compiles real-time turbulence reports from thousands of aircraft, using EDDY Dissipation Rate data (Edr).
  • 2. Lido Mpilot: Emirates’ long-standing partnership with Lufthansa systems provides pilots with a mobile Navigational Sticing Platform, enriched by data from the German weather service. Lido Mpilot delivers live cloud and convection data, turbulence and icing forecasts, as well as advanced weather reporting, to help crews anticipate weather conditions in advance.
  • 3. IATA Stubbrence knows: As part of the IATA Turbulence Active Aware program, Emirates both contributes and consumes global, real-time turbulence data. The platform combines information from participating news outlets around the world, providing a constantly updated view of weather conditions.

By integrating these datasets into its electronic flight information (EFB) application, Emirates’ pilots can visualize live evacuation areas and prepare quickly – improving comfort, safety and comfort efficiency.

AI-driven intelligence in the safe sky

Emirates said its AI and Machine learning Ecosystem allows continuous refinement and accuracy of predictions, even in regions without active flight data or in clear air conditions, which remains one of the unpredictable dangers of the air.

This integrated approach, combining granular data, predictive analytics, and real-time visualization, enables airlines to make effective flight decisions on behalf of passengers and crew.

Emirates said these new innovations are part of its wider commitment to efficiency, safety, and sustainability, in line with the UAE’s wider adoption of AI across critical sectors.
