Hormel is recalling about 5m pounds of chicken over possible metal contamination

Hormel Foods is recalling approximately 5 pounds of Foodservice ready-to-eat Frozen Project Products that may be “contaminated by pieces of metal,” according to an announcement Saturday by the Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).
The Austin, Minnesota-based company traced the contamination to metal particles from a conveyor belt used during production, the agency said. The pieces varied in size, measuring about 2mm by 17mm, FSIS told Fox Business.
The controversy was discovered after Hormel received many complaints from food customers – including hotels, restaurants and other organizations that serve people food from chicken breasts and thighs, according to the organization.
The affected items, sold under the Hormel® Fire Braised ™ label, were distributed nationwide. 10 and September 19, 2025.

“Hormel Foods Marketing, LLC is voluntarily recalling 215,258 cases, or a total of 4,8744,815 pounds, of Hormel Five® “Fire Braisettm items sent to Foodservice retailers across the United States as they may contain high metal content,” Hormel told FOX on Sunday.
The recall includes multiple cases of boneless and mbig chicken breasts weighing 13 to 24 pounds, with item codes 65009, 77531, 46750, and 86206, and 134394 printed on the labels.

Both FSIS and Hormel emphasized that the products were not sold in grocery stores or directly to consumers.

FSIS warned that some of the recalled products may be stored in Free Theres commercial kitchens and was conducting routine checks to ensure the product is no longer available to consumers.
“These businesses are urged not to use the product,” the organization said in the announcement. “This product should be thrown away.”
