Hilton denied that their hotels were used for immigration detention in 2020

Fox News contributor and former FBI special agent Nicole Parker joins ‘Varney & Co.’ as scrutiny of the Minnesota fraud scandal grows.
Hilton Hotels insisted on Tuesday that it is a “welcoming place” after the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) alleged that police were barred from working at the privately owned Minneapolis property, but a 2020 corporate statement says so. others US Immigration & Customs Enforcement may not approve after all.
Emails shared on social media by DHS and ICE appear to show employees at the Hampton Inn by Hilton in Lakeville, Minnesota, telling people connected to DHS reservations that the property will not allow ICE or other immigration agents to stay. Hilton ended the relationship with the paid person and said the actions described did not reflect Hilton’s values.
Hilton said it was “taking immediate action to remove” the hotel from its plans and to consult with all shareholders to “reinforce the standards we hold for them throughout our program to ensure this does not happen again.”

Hilton declined in 2020 immigration-related work elsewhere, however, when the privately-owned Hampton Inn & Suites in McAllen, Texas, “accepted reservations for an independent contractor working for US Immigration & Customs Enforcement,” according to the company.
The company released a statement in September 2020 noting that it believes hotels should not be used for detention purposes.
“We believe that hotels should be places of hospitality, and the detention of immigrants, including minors, is not something we support or in any way want associated with our hotels,” Hilton said at the time.
“We understand that these reservations were intended to hold immigrants, including children, as they were transported to other locations,” Hilton said at the time.
“This is not an activity that we support or want in any way with our hotels,” the hotel giant continued. “Our policy has always been that hotels should not be used as detention centers or detention centers. We expect all Hilton properties to refuse business that would use a hotel in this way. We are in the process of contacting all Hilton hotel owners in the US to remind them of our policy, and provide guidance on identifying and preventing this type of business.”

The hotel giant took a series of actions in 2020.
Hilton said “it emphasizes our long-term policy with all owners, management companies and General Managers of hotels throughout the United States,” “to review and communicate with our product standards that can be enforced, worldwide to directly communicate our detention policy,” “to review with hotels in our network any reservations that may fit this profile and ensure their continued compliance with our long-term goal and strengthen our government.”

A Hilton insider dismissed the idea that the 2020 statement contradicted the current situation and noted that the Minnesota facility would have had reason to fire agents if they planned to bring inmates inside the hotel.
“These are two very different issues… one was the inmates, and the use of the hotel as a detention center in 2020,” the insider said, adding that the latest event was about lodging and who can get lodging at Hilton hotels.
“This is a chain of hotels that provides accommodation for tourists from various backgrounds. It is not a detention center,” said the insider. “Hilton has taken action.”
