A federal judge appointed by former President Ronald Reagan announced in a press release Sunday that he had left his position, changing his schedule to speak out against President Donald Trump, and use the law to reward and punish opponents.

Mark Wolf, who was appointed by Reagan in 1985, told The Atlantic that he had looked forward to serving on the bench for the rest of his life but felt compelled to step down.

“My reason is simple: I can no longer tolerate being prevented from speaking publicly or doing it outside the court, focusing on his opponents. To protect his patrons from arrest, prosecution and punishment,” he wrote.

“This goes against everything I have stood for in more than 50 years at the Department of Justice and on the white bench about the rule of law. It is very disturbing to me to hear, now, now it is intolerable.”

The former judge of the US District Court for the district of Massachusetts said that he started his career in public services at the Department of Justice in 1974, several years after the water series.

Wolff served under Gerald Ford’s attorney general Edward Levi, who argued against him and helped shape his views on what it means to support the rule of law and to seek justice in a non-partisan way.

“I have decided all my cases based on facts and legality, without regard to politics, popularity, or personal preferences. This is the way everyone should do it, without fear of what is happening now,” he wrote.

White House Deputy Press Secretary Abigail Jackson told The Times that judges who look to ‘inject their own agenda into the law have no place on the bench.’

“Any other prominent judges who want to complain to the media should at least have the decency to step down before doing so,” he said.

The White House did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
