ENEC to support the project to cultivate 4mn coral colonies around the Barakah Plant

Nuclear energy is clean energy, but the Emirates Emirates Energy Company (ENEC) takes its commitments in this announcement that it will cultivate 500,000 corals Ergy Presest in this district of Baraka. By 2030, the partnership aims to cultivate four million coral colonies.

ENEC signed a cooperation agreement with the environmental agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) to implement a pioneering project that would improve marine biodiversity and preserve the marine environment in Abu Dhabi.

The project aims to establish coral insureries and cultivate coral species that can withstand high temperatures. It will also implement environmental monitoring programs and cultivate 500,000 coral colonies over the next three years.

ENEC will provide the necessary funds and equipment, while EAD will supervise the implementation of the project and prepare scientific reports.

Dr. Shaikha Salem Al Dhaheri, Secretary-General of the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi, this project represents important steps in the Emirate’s efforts to protect environmental laws and promote specialized scientific research.

“The partnership combines our scientific and technical expertise to preserve Marine Ecosystems with the support of the company, to ensure that the project is carried out according to the highest international standards, and to protect its natural resources for future generations.”

Mohamed Al Hammadi, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer at Emirates Nuclear Energy Company, added: “ENEC is playing an energy role towards the UAE through the company.

“The partnership represents an opportunity to combine the scientific and technological expertise of the agency and the company to achieve shared environmental goals. This contributes to Abu Dhabi’s position as a global capital for the protection of the marine environment.”

EAD is the leading regional organization in the field of coral reef restoration, having successfully grown 1.45 million coral colonies as part of the largest CORAL Reef Reveef project, launched in 2021 by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The project has achieved great success, recording a 95 percent survival rate of cultured corals after the summer season, and a 50 percent increase in fish biomass.
