Dubai Traffic Plan: New bridges, lane extensions and road improvements to Slash travel times

Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has awarded the contract for the development of the Sheikh Zayled Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Road junction with Al Awind Road, as part of a wider effort to improve traffic flow and support urban growth across the Emirate.

The project will deliver 2.3km of bridges, improved roads, elevated roads, and new access points serving residential areas and developments along Sheikh Street and AL AWIR ROOR in both directions.

Once completed, it is expected to significantly improve capacity and reduce congestion in the corridor.

The plan will increase the capacity of the roads from 5,200 vehicles per hour in both traffic to 14,400 vehicles per hour in both directions-176.

Travel time along the route is set to fall from 20 minutes to just five minutes, with completion planned for the third quarter of 2028.

Mattar Al Tayer, director general, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of Roads and Transport, said: “Executing this project is part of the RTA’s plan to improve the growing roads, improve mobility, and ensure the smooth movement of DUBAI.

“This plan supports the needs of the city’s expansion and population growth. The project serves residential areas and developments with a combined number of residents and tourists exceeding 600,000.

“This project involves converting the existing area into a connection with a distance that is separated by a distance that enables free-flowing traffic in all directions.

“The works include the construction of large bridges on Sheikh ZAYED BIN Hamdan Al Nahyan Street with four lanes in each direction, as well as the construction of left and left traffic lanes, each consisting of two lanes.”

“The project also includes the construction of a bridge at the junction of AL AWIR road with Emirates road to accommodate AL AWIR and AL AWIR ROOR traffic in both areas to provide surrounding areas to improve the surrounding areas.”

He further explained: “This project includes the improvement of the surface roads in the section of Sheikh ZAYED BIN Hamdan Al Nahyan Street through Al Mamama Street.

The project will also provide safe access points to provide nearby development sites. “

Sheikh zayed bin hamdan road development

The development of Sheikh ZAYED BIN Hamdan Al Nahyan Street is part of the RTA’s comprehensive road rehabilitation program, which began with the expansion of each street over 25km ain the Al Yalayis Street roundabout.

Several surrounding roads were redeveloped as part of these works.

A distance-separated Interchange is being constructed at the intersection of Sheikh ZAYED BIN Hamdan Al Nahyan Street with Latifa Bint Hamdan Street near Global Village Road for inbound traffic from Emirates Road.

A visible roundabout was constructed at the intersection with Al Qudra Street, and a marked intersection at the intersection with Hessa Street. These measures represent temporary solutions for vehicles that will be further developed with future developments.

Dubai Silicon Oasis

The project also included the development of a section from Dubai-Al Ain Road to the city of education, covering three kilometers.

This section is involved in the construction of two Dubai Silicon Oasis Conter bridges, each 120 meters, which provides four lanes in each direction and a total of 14,400 vehicles per hour in both directions.

A visual surface circulation is also built under the bridges, which includes 20 lanes in all directions with an average of 8,000 vehicles per hour.

These improvements are designed to ensure smooth traffic in Dubai Silicon Oasis and Zay University, while improving mobility in the academic city.
