Dubai RTA completes 7km Al Warqa’a 1 road upgrade, increasing traffic by 30 percent

The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed traffic expansion works on Al Warqa’a 1 Street, bringing 7km of improvement in both directions between Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road and Ras Al Khor Road.
The project involved converting four roundabouts into intelligently signalized intersections, resulting in an improvement in traffic flow of up to 30 percent. The works are part of the RTA’s ongoing efforts to improve the efficiency of the road network, support smooth daily travel and improve the quality of life of residents.
In addition to the development of intersections, the traffic expansion works include a complete package of supporting infrastructure. This includes the construction of 6,600 meters of improved storm drains, the installation of 324 light poles with modern street lighting systems, and the provision of 111 new parking spaces.
Pedestrian paths were also improved across the 41,000 square meter area, contributing to improved traffic flow and improved safety for all road users.
Dubai road development
Hamad Al Shehhi, Director of Roads at the Traffic and Roads Agency, RTA, said: “This project builds on the works completed by the RTA in June 2025, which includes the construction of direct entrances and exits to Al Warqa’a from Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road to facilitate access to and from the area.
“It also includes traffic improvement works on 13th Street in Al Warqa’a 1, which extends for about 8 kilometers in both directions, to help the residents of Al Warqa’a and school users, as part of the project to improve the network of internal roads in the area.
“RTA is strongly committed to developing integrated infrastructure including road network, street lights, and stormwater drainage systems, in line with Dubai’s population and the city’s growth goals.
“These initiatives respond to residents’ aspirations for an improved urban environment and support the vision of Dubai as a smart and prosperous city that prioritizes the quality of life and happiness of its residents.”
He also said: “The development projects currently implemented by the RTA in the Al Warqa’a area include the development of the internal road network in Al Warqa’a 3 and Al Warqa’a 4. The scope of works includes the paving of roads, the construction of pedestrian and pedestrian paths, and the provision of parking spaces, in addition to the development of bicycle tracks.
“These projects aim to improve connectivity and cycle routes in neighborhoods and support sustainable alternative modes of transport.”
The RTA last October held a discussion session with residents and visitors of Mirdif and Al Warqa’a to explain the progress of the Dubai Metro Blue Line project in their areas.
The session also reviewed RTA’s plans to improve the road network and improve residents’ satisfaction and daily commute.
Key topics included the planned traffic diversions in Al Warqa’a and Mirdif at different stages of the project, demonstrating the RTA’s approach to communicating directly with residents and visitors, informing them of developments, and providing feedback on practical solutions that improve quality of life.
