Dubai cracks down on illegal truck parking with new inspection campaign and $54,000 fine

Dubai is cracking down on lorry parking violations with fine-tuning campaigns and smart fines and inspection campaigns.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched a wide-ranging inspection campaign targeting inappropriate behavior by lorry drivers, with a particular focus on unplanned parking on motorways across all roads.
The move is part of RTA’s ongoing efforts to improve road safety, protect infrastructure, and preserve the city’s environment while ensuring smooth and safe travel.

Strict inspections are being sent to several key areas, including areas under bridges and on highways where violations are being made.
The RTA said the campaign forms a key part of its comprehensive strategy to reduce roadblocks that obstruct traffic, endanger road users, and affect road efficiency throughout Dubai’s Road Network.
Arif Shakri, director of the right of RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency, said: “The inspection campaigns carried out by the RTA are mainly intended to control the activities in the right-of-way, protect the public space and infrastructure, and protect the road from unauthorized practices.
“The RTA will continue to carry out these campaigns regularly, alongside unrepresented inspections, to find violations and take action against those who do not have the rights to prevent the right of the emirate.
“RTA continues to raise awareness among freight companies and HGV drivers about the dangers associated with unplanned parking and the importance of using designated lorry parking spaces”.
He added: “The RTA has established 14 truck rest stops across the emirate to ensure greater comfort for drivers, especially during truck stoppages on certain roads.
“These areas support efforts to reduce truck-related incidents and curb unsafe practices that endanger the safety of road users.”
Dubai truck fine
Shakri emphasized the importance of compliance: “RTA urges cargo companies and truck drivers to comply with all regulatory and operational requirements, and unscheduled truck parking within the right or on highways is a clear violation.
“The fines start at AED 5,000 ($1,361) and can be doubled for repeated or serious offences, reaching up to AED 200,000
Dubai’s dedicated truck rest areas play a major role in supporting the campaign’s objectives. These areas include prayer rooms, diesel refueling stations, retail outlets, restaurants, truck maintenance workshops and designated rest areas for drivers.
