Bipartisan vendors submit report requiring AI government content labels

Bipartisan Legal Forums released a report Wednesday that requires federal agencies and officials to subpoena any AI-generated content posted by official government channels.

The Bill states that AI content must include “clear, visible, and informative viewers” that prominently indicate that the content is created or manipulated by AI.
The disclaimer must be written in plain English and easily understood, according to the bill.

“In the age of distortion, Americans should be able to trust that information from official government sources is legitimate and based on truth,” Foster said in a statement. “With the rapid increase in AI-generated content, there must be clear guidelines to ensure that those in our Federal office and the nation’s highest office do not misuse or abuse the American public.”
This bill applies to the President, Vice President and officers and employees of Federal Agencies.
Exceptions to the proposed requirement may include content that is not intended for public release or is intended for domestic purposes, formatting or other visual content or content that contains visual content or content that does not contain content created or manipulated using artificial intelligence. “

Licensed text-enabled software used to improve performance may also be exempt from the requirements of the standards.
The Times says the bill “brings greater transparency and accountability to the federal government’s use of artificial intelligence.”
“Our bill requires Federal agencies and officials to clearly disclose when text, images, audio, or video shared with the public in their official capacity has been produced or used using AI,” he said. “This law protects the power to exercise domestic power while ensuring that anything that is publicly released can be seen with confidence in the credibility and clarity of government communications.”
