When Anthony Hopenkins reflected on his beauty journey, he also realized that his mental health issues may have stemmed from his father, who was also a heavy drinker.

Hopkins, 87, admitted on Sunday that “like his father’s son,” it crossed his mind that “something was wrong” with his mind.

It was British actor Laurence Olivier who encouraged Hopkins to pursue mental health treatment and see a psychiatrist. Hopkins admitted that he “briefly” saw a counselor, but didn’t particularly like the process.

“He kept saying, ‘Let’s go back,'” Hopkins recalled. And I just go, ‘I don’t want to do this.’ It’s surprising. “

As soon as Hopkins found out that the counselor had been married three times, he ended his decision and stopped treatment. “Wow,” Hopkins is said to have told the adviser, “everything is going well with you.”

His third wife, Stella Arroyave, believes that Hopkins is autistic.

“I’m obsessed with numbers. I’m obsessed with details,” Hopkins said. “I like everything in order. And by heart. Stella looked at you and said, ‘You must have Asperger’s.’ I had no idea what the hell he was talking about. I don’t believe it. “

When Hopkins was educated about the benefits of a neurodivergence diagnosis even after life, the Oscar-winning actor admitted that he was still reluctant to believe the labels.

“Yeah, I think I’m cheating because it’s all nonsense. It’s all rubbish,” Hopkins said. “ADHD, OCD, Asperger, Blah, Blah, Blah. O HUND, it’s called human, it’s full of warts and grime and craziness, it’s the human condition.”

He added, “all these labels. I mean, who cares? But now it’s fashionable.”

“Oh, give me a break,” Hopkins said before finding a different idea in his psyche.

“I think it’s probably kind of embarrassing that I’m an actor,” Hopkins admitted. “‘What are you doing?’ ‘I’m working.’ No, I have never done a strike in my life. When I look at my life, the truth is that I have never had a good, good job in my entire life. ”

He continued, “I didn’t do anything but show, say the lines and go home. People are out there digging the roads and working. I didn’t break. I didn’t break [myself] And think, ‘I never did a day’s work in my life.’ That is true. “

Before his 50th birthday, the “silence of the lambs” star remembered the moment when he realized that he was an alcoholic as he went drunk in California “

“It was a moment when I realized that I had killed someone – or I, I did not care, but I had not killed the family in the car,” but I was moaning the family in the car, ”

“I realized that I was an alcoholic. I came to my senses and I said to my lawyer at this event in the hills of Beverly Hills, I need help.'”

He added, “I made a fatal call to an intergroup organization in la, a 12 step program. They said, ‘We’ll send someone to meet you,’ and I said, ‘No, I’ll come to you.’ “

When Hopkins arrived at the meeting, he heard a “deep, powerful thought” that told him, “Everything is over. Now you can begin to live, so everything has its purpose.”
