An Israeli military police officer has been arrested after agreeing to release a video of alleged torture

Israel’s top military official has been jailed after admitting to authorizing the leaking of a video that appears to show the arrest of a Palestinian in prison last year.
Major General Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi served as Israel’s military representative for the defense force until Friday, Oct. 31, when he admitted to the creation of a video leak to the Israeli media.
He called his actions, “an effort to combat the false propaganda directed at the Martial Law authorities,” following a backlash by members of Israel’s right to investigate his department’s alleged abuse of a Palestinian prisoner.
Israeli media have reported that Tomer-Yerushalmi is set to be watched by investigators, and that he could face criminal charges. Until recently, the department led an investigation into a similar video leak.

The mature video in question, which was released to media outlets in August 2024, started a panic in Israel and abroad. The security camera clip was recorded at the SDE Teiman detention center, and the IDF does not dispute its authenticity. It shows Israeli soldiers carrying a blind guard behind a wall of personal shields that appear to have been erected by other soldiers to hide from the view of security cameras.
After the video was released, five Israeli soldiers were arrested and charged with aggravated battery for causing serious harm to their cell.
According to the document detailing the charges, the soldiers shouted, dragged, entered and began to arrest. A Palestinian man was admitted to the hospital with damaged ribs, damaged lungs and tear formation after the incident.
The investigation into the alleged attack is ongoing.
The arrest of those arrested prompted angry demonstrations in support of the suspected soldiers, especially a Crowd recruitment and break-in at the SDE Teiman facility. Israeli media said that three members of the Israeli Parliament, the Konset, were present at that demonstration. The second center, where the soldiers were being interrogated, was again arrested by the protesters.

In his resignation letter, Temer-Yerushalmi said there had been a “false campaign of inclusion” against his department, whose role is to increase law enforcement within the IDF.
“This smear campaign reached its peak following the decision to investigate SDE Teiman Adrair,” said Tomer-Yerushalmi.
He also said that “there were” serious suspicions suggesting that we found terrorists on top of our forces “during the investigation of the attack on the detention center.
Anger among Israelis at Hamas’ Oct 7 Oct 7, 2023 The attack fueled the opposition in many places to investigate the actions of members of the country’s security and tomer-Jerushalmi was heavily criticized by senior members of the Israeli government at the time and investigated.
Shortly after his resignation on Friday, Israel’s Defense Minister Katz released a statement that welcomed his departure, adding: “Anyone who extends bloodshed against the uniform of the army.”
On Sunday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the scandal was ‘the most difficult propaganda attack for the State of Israel to face. “
When approached about the arrest of the top military lawyer, Israel’s national police declined to comment, noting that the investigation was ongoing.
Palestinians have been leaving Israeli prisons since the US prison operation began in Gaza to suffer terrible abuse at the hands of their authorities. The United Nations said in September that at least 75 Palestinians died in Israeli detention when the war in Gaza was carried out by Hamas’ Oct 7 Attack.
Some of the relevant members of the Israeli government have vowed to promise that the arrests of those in the hospitable country, including the Minister of Security Itamar Ben Gvir, who was in charge of prisons in the country, had sworn that they would not be “summer camps” under his watch.
