Amazon Cloud Services is ‘recovering’ after the world’s biggest outage – nationwide

Amazon said its cloud computing service was recovering from a major outage that disrupted internet service around the world on Monday.

Amazon Web Services provides remote computing services to many governments, universities and companies, including a parallel machine.

On DownDeset, a website that tracks online outages, users have reported problems with Snapchat, Roblox, Fortnite, Online App Broker, the McDonald’s app and many other services. Coinbase and Signal both told X that they were dealing with issues related to the AWS exit.

The first signs of trouble appeared at about 3:11 a.m., Eastern Web time, when Amazon Web Services reported on its health dashboard that it was “investigating rising price levels and rising learning sites.”

The company later reported that “there were premium prices” and that engineers were working “diligently” on the problem.

At about 6 a.m., the company said it was seeing recovery beyond the affected services. “We can confirm global services and features dependent on East-1 are also available again,” it said, adding that they are operating “with full resolution.”

AWS customers include some of the largest businesses and organizations in the world.


“The majority of the world now relies on these big or four (cloud) companies that provide a comprehensive infrastructure that when there is a cyber crisis, said Putrick, a cybersecurity expert at UK-based BCS, a chartered institute.

“The world now runs in the cloud” and the Internet is seen as a waste like water or electricity as we spend more of our lives on our smartphones, Burgess said.

And because the plumbing of the Internet is reserved for a few companies, when something goes wrong “It’s very difficult for users to identify what’s going on because we don’t see Snapchat or ROBLOX,” Burgess said.

“The good news is that these types of problems are usually quick (to resolve)” and there is nothing to indicate that they are caused by a cyber incident like a cyberattack, Burgess said.

Amazon Web Services said at around 6:30 a.m. that “Most of the AWS services are running normally now.”
