Investigators from the consumer watchdog group said they discovered the AI-powered talking teddy bear was able to discuss inappropriate topics, including sexually explicit content and instructions to find dangerous material.
The $99 Kumma bear, manufactured in China and sold by Singapore-based Folotoy, is powered by Opelai’s GPT-4O Chatbot. According to a November 13 report from the Public Interest Research Group (PIRG), the bear discussed spanking, playground and BDSM.
“We were surprised to find how quickly Kumma took one sexual topic we introduced into the conversation and increased it with new details while introducing new concepts of its sexuality,” the report said.
“Kumma discussed more graphic topics in detail, such as defining different positions for sex, giving different commands for sex, a step-by-step knot of ’empowering teachers and parents involving teachers and parents, and children – disturbing situations.
Concerns about testing children with smart toys have been flagged by the group

Opena also emphasized that GPT-4O is no longer the default model for chatgpt power.
