This event really happened, although it happened in the year 2018 and many social media posts described the offensive goals. Recent interest in the matter may have been related to the post from Guinness World Records.

The boy, Jackson Oswalt, became the youngest person to achieve nuclear fusion in 2018. Guinness published a blog post about him in February 2025 and a post) about him in March 2025.

According to Guinness, Jackson was inspired at the age of 11 by Taylor Wilson, who was the youngest person to achieve nuclear fusion when he graduated. Jackson was able to achieve the benefit of his 13th birthday, but Guinness said that because it was two hours before his birth time was still technological, it made him the youngest new record holder to achieve nuclear fusion. Guinness added that the FBI visited the boy’s home to de-radiate him after his accomplishment.

At the time of his achievement, Jackson posted details of his project and evidence of his success on the forum of amateur fuseeers (archives), a term used to refer to people who discover nuclear fusion. The device created by Jackson and many other Amateur Fuseeers was a fuse, which did not produce energy like a reactor. Some of the Foundery on the forum confirmed that Jackson achieved fusion based on the evidence he provided, relying on the detection of neutrons, and was declared the youngest.

In 2019, Jackson was invited to speak at the University of Rochester for Laser Energetics, and to reveal himself as the world’s youngest. He also featured his ranch on a local news station (archived) in Memphis, Tennessee, where he came from, that year.

Jackson already posted a thread on his X account (archived) explaining how he created his fusur. He said “almost every single part” of the device turned up on eBay, where hidden research and military sites would drop parts for a price.

Near the end of the thread, he noted his experience with the FBI (reserved): “One Saturday) I woke up FBI agents around the house with a geiger counter to make sure everything was okay.” Then it sunk in that he remained a free man after that. Jackson did not mention “attacks.”
