If there’s one thing anime has always been able to do better than any other medium, it’s make new characters look like the most dangerous, most powerful, and above all, the coolest part of the story. Aura cultivation is what’s referred to when someone deliberately tries to look like the coolest person in the room, but anime fans have known it for years as “the introduction of a new character.”
One Piece Season 2: On the Main Line it keeps the anime alive with the introduction of Miss All Sunday and her easy takedown of the crew while showing confidence. If you needed an idea of what aura farming is, this is it.
One Piece Live Action Throws Anime Character Intro Trope
Miss All Sunday is played by Lera Abova, in her second role in the series Pitch Perfect: Bumper Berlinwhich in any other anime adaptation would be a cause for alarm among fans. Someone with that little knowledge trying to bring a fan favorite character to life would be a disaster, but, Oda, the creator of One pieceyou have chosen all the characters. He knew what he was doing. The character, empowered by the Flower-Flower Devil Fruit, has the ability to reproduce his limbs from any other place. Within 20 seconds, a live action sequence allows him to show what happens when this nighttime energy is unleashed.
Appropriately considering Abova’s background, Miss All Sunday takes on a runway full of Marine as a fashion runway. Bright pink flower petals are a good sign of arms sprouting from the soldiers and forcing them to stab and shoot themselves, which again, is really scary to think about. The thing is One piece it makes it look so cool.
One Piece Fixes Small Things
For decades, the gold standard for live-action adaptations of the coolest powerhouses in print has been Nightcrawler (Alan Cumming) in the original Nightcrawler scene. X-2. The German mutant’s teleportation is on full display as he easily infiltrates the Secret Service and is only stopped from killing the President by a lucky shot. The only part of his power that cannot appear in that opening scene is the smell of sulfur.
The first season of One piece is the biggest live-action anime of all time, and Season 2 picks up where it left off. The introduction of Miss All Sunday may seem like a moment in the grand scheme of the series, but this is the kind of sequence that makes the series feel more like a live-action anime version than anything else. Dragonball Evolution. Small tweaks, from Luffy’s infectious smile to the odd outfits of everyday citizens, and character introductions to cultivate aura, should be done for the benefit of original fans.
One Piece Season 2: On the Main Line it’s only been out for a few days, and if you’ve been playing, you know there’s a lot more to come for Miss All Sunday, and anime/manga fans, well, they know what fun is coming in Season 3. If the series can nail Miss All Sunday’s introduction and power like this, then how good will Warlords of the Seven Seas be? Will the series also come to Blackbeard?
One piece Season 2, which aired on Netflix, raised the bar for anime fans, and all it took to prove it was a 60-second walk down the hall.
