DoorDash delivery app debuts with ChatGPT for grocery shopping

HP CEO Enrique Lores discusses the use of AI in the company’s technology in ‘The Claman Countdown.’
DoorDash, Inc. announced Wednesday that it is launching a new grocery shopping app within OpenAI’s ChatGPT platform, just one week after rival Instacart unveiled a similar feature.
The food delivery company said the merger will link ChatGPT’s suggestions to DoorDash’s nationwide grocery network, allowing customers to turn recipe and food ideas “directly into grocery orders delivered within an hour.”
“This partnership is a big first step in meeting customers where they’re looking for inspiration and bringing them the DoorDash experience they already know and love,” the company said in a statement.
DoorDash co-founder Andy Fang said the partnership will help streamline the food planning and shopping process, saying “AI is opening up new experiences and experiences for consumers that are flexible and personalized.”

“We’re excited to partner with OpenAI to create a seamless experience that allows users to quickly order ingredients for any recipe and check out directly on DoorDash,” he continued.
Fang added that this move is part of a broader campaign to expand the use of AI, saying, “As we expand this experience to more stages of shopping, we are focused on building AI tools that give people time back and make local shopping easier.”
DoorDash said the partnership will make grocery shopping “easier, faster and easier,” explaining that ChatGPT will be able to combine recipes based on user preferences and turn ingredients into a grocery list. Once the list is complete, the user can open their cart in the DoorDash app and deliver their order to a local store.
Kroger, Safeway, Bi-Rite, Schnucks, Fairway Markets and Wegmans are among the stores participating in the partnership, DoorDash said.

“The DoorDash app on ChatGPT is another step in bringing our vision to life—where AI connects directly with real-world services, saving people time and effort in their daily lives,” said Nick Turley, head of ChatGPT, in a statement.
DoorDash’s announcement came a week after rival Instacart launched an app on ChatGPT to help customers create an online grocery cart that can be paid for and delivered quickly.
“Instacart and ChatGPT are redefining what’s possible in AI-powered shopping,” said Instacart Chief Technology Officer Anirban Kundu. “Built on Agentic Commerce Protocol, this experience brings intelligent, real-time support to one of the most important parts of everyday life: getting groceries to feed your family.”
