Abu Dhabi to send AI drones, self-driving cars and 3,000 taxis by 2025 formula 1 prix

Abu Dhabi will deploy AI drones, self-driving cars, 3,000 taxis and more to support traffic during the Formula 1 Grand Prix festivities.

The Transport Coordinating Center (ITC) has revealed the full travel schedule to support the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, taking place from December 4-7.

The program demonstrates ITC’s commitment to ensuring seamless transport operations for one of the world’s premier sporting events, while strengthening Abu Dhabi’s status as a global destination for major events.

ITC has confirmed that all necessary services will be deployed in accordance with the highest travel standards.

Smart Traffic Management

Traffic operations on the coastal island will be managed through the Traffic Control Center, which will control traffic signals and provide real-time updates to road users through various messaging SINGINGS.

“Road Service Patrol teams” will be sent to support motorists and handle incidents, including providing fuel, changing tires and recharging batteries.

Tow trucks will also be available to quickly clear broken down vehicles to ensure road safety and maintain traffic flow.

ITC will introduce AI-enabled drones to monitor road conditions, identify traffic and detect illegal parking.

These drones will automatically record violations using license plate recognition technology and information transmitted in real-time to a control center for follow-up.

Taxi parking and seating levels will also be digitally monitored to improve service availability and reduce waiting times.

All monitoring will be done in accordance with regulatory frameworks, to ensure security and privacy protection.

Private cars

To highlight Abu Dhabi’s leadership in Smart travel, ITC will deploy a fleet of 15 autonomous vehicles throughout the event. These vehicles will operate on designated routes on YAS Island from 3pm to 10pm, transporting spectators between major access points around the race circuit.

The ships will be tracked through the newly launched ITC platform.

Guests can also use an extensive network of over 30 private car services, connecting Yas Island via Al Saadiyat Island, Zayed Airport, Al Rem Island and Al Maryah.

Buses and taxis in Abu Dhabi

ITC allocated 82 public buses to transport visitors and event organizers. The YAS circular bus service will connect Yas Mall (Trzano Gate) and Warner Bros Parks with the racetrack gates, Yas Island hotels and entertainment district.

About 3,000 taxis will be available throughout the event, including regular taxis and ride-hailing services such as Uber and Careem. Two designated drop-off areas have been established within the race area, with additional areas near the hotels and firefighter retreats.

A special event tax will apply, and the ITC will supervise the movement of taxis before, during and after the event.

Managers and inspectors from ITC companies and operating companies will be stationed throughout Yas Island to guide visitors to car parks, public bus stops and taxi stands.

Inspectors will be sent to high traffic areas to monitor movement in liaison with Formula 1 officials and the Abu Dhabi Police and resolve any spectator challenges.

Major events in Abu Dhabi

Since the inception of the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, ITC has been a close strategic partner to the Organizing Committee, working closely with the Abu Dhabi Police to deliver the perfect travel experience.

These efforts are led by highly qualified Emirati staff with experience in managing complex, large-scale events.

Apart from Formula 1, ITC supports many major events across the Emirate, wider economic development and wider community development by providing an integrated, safe and efficient program that improves the quality of life of residents and visitors.
