CEO Sundar Pichai warned on Sunday that the US must “find the right balance” in China’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) legislation.
In an interview on “Fox News on Sunday” with Shannon Bream, Pichai noted that more than 1,000 bills related to the legislatures going through more than now would create confusing rules that make it more difficult for American companies to compete in the world.
“How do you deal with these various laws, and how do you compete with countries like China, which are moving fast in this technology?” Pichai asked. “So I think we have to find the right balance.”
Pichai said the US must strike a balance between encouraging innovation and building Gudderails – something he said would be improved at the national level. “

He also said that both governments and technology companies should strengthen their defenses, adding that countries should work together “and develop international organizations together so that we do not enter this technology alone.”
“Part of it is us as companies making our products better,” Pichai said. “Part of it is governments working together to create standards and frameworks where we all use technology in a collaborative way.”
Pichai noted that AI has ‘huge benefits’ – including the potential to develop new drugs and cancer treatments – but warned that similar tools could be added by bad actors.
“Any technology has two sides to it,” Pichai said. “… Humanity’s journey is always, ‘How do you integrate technology for the benefit of society?’ And I think this technology is no different. “

“You want to use AI on the defense side as well,” Pichai said. “The same way bad actors can use AI, we can also use AI to get those jobs better.”
Pichai also discussed Google’s “Suncatcher” project, the first step in building AI-powered data centers in the outer space.
“There’s no doubt in my mind that for a decade or so we’ll be looking at it as the standard way to build data centers,” he said.

When asked if AI is reclaiming human imagination, Pichai compared the concerns to pre-Google criticism decades ago.
“About twenty-five years ago, people were asking the same questions through Google Search,” he said. “I think as a society we will adapt, and I expect that our creative days will improve in the future.”
