UAE launches NATION Encryption policy to prepare quantum leggy for cybersecurity threats

The UAE has approved a national encryption policy and issued its main law, marking a major step in strengthening the country’s digital infrastructure and accelerating the transition to Post-Quantum Cryptography.

Public enterprises are now required to prepare clear, legally mandated transition strategies from traditional encryption methods to stronger standards.

This policy aims to ensure that it is safe, prepared for the technological future of tomorrow with the rapid development of quantum computing.

It reflects the UAE’s desire to stay at the forefront of global innovation and underlines its position as an international hub for innovation and advanced technology.

UAE CyberShumirs Council

Under the policy, the UAE Cybersecurity Council will oversee national migration efforts, working in partnership with government agencies to ensure the successful implementation of post-quantum encryption standards.

The Council will focus on strengthening data protection and protecting digital assets in line with international best practices.

The UAE is developing comprehensive national strategies to improve preparedness for emerging cybersecurity challenges. By taking a proactive approach and investing in advanced technology, the country is poised to be among the world’s leading nations in adopting post-quantum encryption.

The UAE Cybersecurity Council plays a leading role in protecting national information security, preventing unauthorized access, and proposing legislation, policies and regulations related to encryption.

It also sets out the procedures and standards required for implementation, with recommendations submitted to the national security adviser for approval.

Cybersecurity risks

The Council will develop ways to reduce the risks caused by quantum computing in systems that use outdated or weak crypays.

It will also prepare migration plans for critical systems, conduct technical testing and analysis, and support both public and private sectors in the integrity and readiness testing of digital systems prior to major deployments.

This assessment includes testing the quality, efficiency and readiness of AI systems, software, hardware and other technical elements to ensure compliance with national and international standards.

This enables institutions to secure technical approvals and validate their solutions with confidence.

To improve security, the Council’s services are organized around four pillars and assurance services:

  • AI approval testing
  • Reliable Software Testing
  • Hardware testing
  • Signal reliability test

These pillars ensure that digital systems, applications and critical infrastructure can withstand emerging threats and comply with the UAE’s cybersecurity requirements.

Digital transformation

Dr. Mohammed al-Kuwaiti, the head of the government’s cybersecurity, said that the approval of the national encryption policy and its greater control represents a major development in the National Cyberser Program.

He stressed that this achievement shows the leadership’s commitment to strengthening the UAE’s status as a reliable global HUB for artificial intelligence and advanced technology.

He also added that encryption and information security have become an important challenge for countries, institutions and communities that are promoting digital transformation and the expansion of safe and useful infrastructure.
