MLB bids media rights to bring games to Netflix, NBC

Major League Baseball announced major rights to Media Media on Wednesday that will keep games on ESPN for the 39th consecutive season while bringing games back to NBC and forming a new partnership with Netflix.

The three-year deal brings NBC back into the primary MLB fold for the first time in two years, and Netflix will stream live games for the first time.

“Our new rights agreements with ESPN, NBCuniverfal and Netflix provide us with a great opportunity to expand our reach to fans through three powerful areas of live sports, live sports, entertainment,” MLB Commissioner Manfred said in a statement.

“Following our game of our World Series outstanding more than 51 million viewers around the world, this participation in the use of production areas, and is observed in the use of social media. We look forward to copying metrises, nbCuniversal and netflix each that bring the game for the benefit of our fans.”

While MLB games will continue to be on ESPB.TV, “Sunday Night Baseball” is an NBC staple, as is the wild card series. The Home Run Derby and Field of Dreams game will move to Netflix, and NBC’s first game of the season will be the first opening day game between Los-to-Diamondbacks.

MLB games were broadcast on NBC from 1947 to 1989, then again from 1994 to 2000.
