One of the biggest trends among US homeowners this year is water conservation.
Domestic listings of Watersense Fixtures – which reduce water consumption by at least 20% – increased by almost 290% between the same period and 2025
“We’re seeing homeowners prioritize features that make their properties efficient, durable, and sustainable,” said Anthony Smith, senior economist at Realtor.com, in a statement. “Consumers are also looking at eco-friendly development as both a lifestyle choice and a good investment – especially as energy costs and climate concerns become part of everyday decision-making.”
Homes that contain water-sense switches command an average price of $628,000, highlighting their popularity among high-end buyers, according to realtor.com.

The growing focus on water features comes as water costs have risen in the US, putting some cash-strapped households at risk of falling into “water debt,” according to an American report released in April.

Listings refer to private edge pools, formal dining rooms with built-in garages, and garages for stolen cars that declined year over year, according to realtor.com.

“A decade ago, buyers might have asked about open floor plans or granite counters,” Smith added. “Today, they want EV chargers, high-speed wiring, and adaptable homes. The definition of what makes a modern home has completely evolved.”
