Sanders called the move “a very bad vote” in a video posted on his X account.
“This evening, 8 Democrats voted with Republicans to allow them to continue with this ongoing resolution,” Sanders said. “And in my mind, this was a very bad vote.”
The ongoing reform was originally designed to temporarily fund the Federal government and prevent a shutdown but, according to Sanders, it contains health premiums, cuts to high income earners through tax changes.

Sanders argued the measure “raises the health premiums of more than 20 million Americans by doubling, and in some cases raising or lowering them.” He continued, “People can’t afford that when we already pay the highest prices in the world for health care.”
He goes on to say in the video that it “blocks the way for 15 million people to be thrown out of Medicaid. Studies show that Americans will die every year.”
“As everybody knows, just on Tuesday, we had a national election,” Sanders said. “And what the election showed is that the American people wanted us to stand up so that we could stand up to Trumpempism – to fight against working class people, for what the American people wanted. But that’s not what happened.”

In the Sanders case, he is voting for the process not to keep the government open, but because he represents a broad policy direction that, in his view, undermines health care and health interests.
“So we have to move forward, do the best we can to ensure and protect working people, to make sure that the United States does not end up being the only major country in the world that does not guarantee health care for all people,” said Sanders. “We have a lot of work to do, but to be honest with you, tonight was not a good night.”
According to the Nonportartan Conmessional budget office (CBO), if the Excressional Afferal Afferess Ort Subsidy allowed under the American rescue plan is allowed to expire, millions of Americans could face higher premiums in the market. CBO’s 2023 analysis of health plans shows that ending the expanded subsidy would significantly increase Actoliding costs for ecollspees in ACA markets.

Studies commissioned by the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (AID), chaired by Sanders, have estimated that major cuts to Medicaid could lead to tens of thousands of preventable deaths every year.
In the report of the 2023 Assistance Committee on Sanders’ website, the Committee referred to a peer-reviewed study published in health issues and Lancet Public Health, which determined that the loss of Medicaid transplants is associated with higher reductions due to reductions in urgent care.

The report is supported by other documents on the site, including findings from Danard 2025 from researchers at the Wale School of Public Health, which warn that the proposed health care “could lead to more than 51,000 health-related deaths.”
Sanders’s comments were published on his official website in a press release from the media that they brought back in March of this year and contradicted his long-standing opposition to the Republican budget that he called “American expenses.
