Masdar, OMV form JV to build 140mw hydrogen eflogen plant at acledroger in Austria

Masdar energy leader, the UAE’s clean global OMV, and Austria’s OMV will jointly operate, build and operate a 140mw hydrogen efledrogen electrogen plant in der Leitha, Austria.

The Joint Venture project will be one of Europe’s largest production facilities and marks a major step in OMV’s commitment to its Deconbonising Recormery to clean and accelerate the energy transition.

Construction began in September 2025 and is expected to be operational in 2027.

OMV will hold a majority stake of 51 percent in the JV and Masdar 49 percent. The JV is expected to close in early 2026, subject to completion of final documents and regulatory approvals.

The Partnership combines Omv’s leadership in the integrated fuels and chemicals business and Masdar in construction, Masdar’s financial expertise in building and operating clean energy projects around the world.

OMV, which already operates a 10 mw green hydrogen electrolysis plant in Schwechat, will purchase the renewable electricity for production and the green hydrogen produced.

Dr. Sultan Bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and chairman of Masdar, this meeting with Masdar’s commitment to renewable energy, “finds the way for future sales opportunities throughout the commercial business throughout Europe.

“Today’s agreement also emphasizes the deep and growing cooperation between the UAE and Austria in the growth of the information age.”

Dr. Wolfgang HattmannsdorFerfer, Minister of Economy of Austria, and tourism, added only to the activities and high strategic cooperation between OMV and years, we have brought one of the largest funds to Austria.

“Omv and Masdar are jointly building the fourth and fifth largest hydrogen plant in Europe – right here in Austria. This project continues to strengthen the Hub’s leading position.”

The binding agreement was signed at Adipec in the presence of Dr. Al Jaber, Dr. Hattmannsdorfer, Dr. Alfred Stern, chairman of CEO Exeguli and OMV; and Mohamel Al Ramahi, CEO of Masdar.

The partnership lays the groundwork for future strategic collaboration between OMV and Masdar to explore green hydrogens, operational aviation (ie-saf) and chemical production in both the UAE and Central and Northern Europe.

OMV’s Dr. Stern added: “Green hydrogen is a key element in OMV’s EMV30 Strategy for our Dedarbonising Truence through European production technology.”

Masdar aims to be the leading producer of green hydrogen and its global supply by 2030. It develops and invests in commercial projects and key platforms around the world.
