The Nintendo DS deserves to live on. Despite the popularity of the original Switch and the sweeping sales of the Switch 2, the original dual-screen Switch continues to be Nintendo’s best-selling device of all time. The Refung Retro Handheld market has cleared in the end to seek the creation of a dual screen, although only anbernic with RG DS can have a very worthy contribution to the revival of DS games.
The $100 anbernic RG DS (Yes, it costs less than the $150 Nintendo DS originally made in 2004) comes very close in appearance to the DSI XL. It packs twin 4-inch, 640 x 480 resolution displays. There are limitations already found with a preloaded SD card (these devices sometimes ship with preloaded games, although gizmodo doesn’t suggest or allow intelligence).
Most importantly, all models come with a large stylus that is used to play old school titles that rely on great clarity. anbernic released a video showing the device playing several DS games for the DS, including Nintendogs (Yes, it has a built-in microphone to call your pups), Kirby: Curse of the canvasagain Trauma Center: Under the knife. In a new video posted on Thursday, anbernic showed more of its special stylus, including a small clear puck at the end of the pen that seems to be an attempt to damage the chances of the touch screen freezing.
Unlike the original DS, which included a stylus attached to the device itself, it turns out that this one for the anbernic rg ds does not. It’s not clear which stylus system features handheld support, so you may need to mix and match until you find a digital pen that works best for you. Some DS emulators miss the stylus
We’ve seen a lot of efforts this year to provide DS-like designs. We started things off with Onexsugar which folds up like a transformer toy to allow for single or duals gameplay. Ayaneo offered a slimmed-down, Android version of its previous PC DS in a package. That wide device has a complete Qualcomm chip of High U Ayn came and released the Thor competition, a $ 250 device that is better suited for 3DS synchronization because of the high resolution screen, 6-inch.
None of these handsets bother to offer a stylus in the package. That’s a shame, because there were so many games that depended on the digital pen. The Nintendo DS used a resistive screen. One issue you will find with capacitive touchscreens is that there will be more latency than you would experience when playing on a traditional device. On such a small screen, you are better off with a stylus that reaches half of the firer than squishy rubber ball pens. There is no Nintendo DS Emotion device. If you’re a geek, you can always try to repair the 3ds. Nintendo effectively abandoned the dual-screen design when it dropped all support for its eShop in 2023. Maybe eventually – Nintendo will give us an official way back to the DS, maybe with the addition of a dual-screen switch-like tup-screen switch-advech.
