Apple will reportedly hire a new Siri brain from Google for $1 billion a year

Siri, somehow we still smell, finally gets a new AI model for Core AI, and it will be a 1.2 trillion parameter Google Gemini-based LLM, according to Bloomberg Apple Reporter Mark Gurman. Until it gets its act together with a proprietary AI system, Gurman writes, it will reportedly give Google about $1 billion a year for a temporary fix.
Internally, Apple is apparently calling Google’s powerful SIRI with the code name “linwood,” according to the report, and rather than announcing Google’s technical cooperation, “Gurman writes.
Apple’s Ai Assistant, released in 2010, has long been a weakness seen in Apple’s Software Software LineUp. Although it has been boiled since the release of the Apple Intelligence Suite, the voice removed by the robot that has worked has not been the basis of the new version of AI driven by the time of the iPhone as driven by Apple when Apple once signed. Instead it has become a symbol of apple’s laziness in the aule race – it is considered more like a piece of 15-year-old software that tells you the weather, and says that you don’t need to understand it or you can’t help it without this.
According to Gurman’s previous reporting, the update will be coming this spring as part of an update to iOS 26.4. This round of changes to Siri will focus on “Personalization,” allowing the assistant to “customize personal information and on-screen tasks to better answer questions.”
According to macromars, the development will include proprietary models of apple where questions can be answered with a low-power model that works on the device itself, and there will be privacy measures in the area where Google’s software is involved. “The user’s privacy will be preserved by running Google’s models on Apple’s server infrastructure without sharing external data, and the data of Benjamin Macra.
Gurman says that changes to Google Gemini will happen when Siri needs to perform complex tasks or summarize information.
Gurman’s report, as usual, comes from an anonymous leak, and Apple’s official statement in response to this report notes that the spring release of new Siri features is not something that has been officially announced.
As James Pero of Gizomodo wrote in July of this year, it is said that Apple is in talks with Openai and Anthropic about the possibility of giving the power of Siri Upgrade with GPT or Claude model. Given that the AI announcements in July did not match what was previously advertised, it looked like things were ‘not going as planned.’
We now have a single data point that shows what goes on behind the scenes at Apple’s AI Workshop. Apple is said to still intend to develop its AI system to provide a kind of Siri, as well as the payment of AI workers in the Mountain, and who left the meta last month. But for now, it seems to be the $1 billion-brion-one-year Google Gemini model.
