An Alabama judge has rejected calls from prosecutors and members of the public to increase the bond of a man charged with attempted murder as the suspect remains out of prison.
The shooting took place on Oct. Montgomery Police Chief Jim Glooys said two people were killed and 12 wounded, adding that only one of the 14 victims was targeted. He said there are many archers.
“This started as a result of a person, one of the 14 (wounded or killed), who we believe was an exchange of gunfire,” Troys said. “When that exchange broke out, a lot of people in the crowd drew their own weapons and started getting fired.”
One of the suspects, Javing Whetiting, 19 years old, was arrested on Oct. 16 and was charged with attempted murder in connection with the mass shooting. According to court documents, the suspect who was repeatedly tested was eventually reported in critical condition.

After the arrest, the Judge sets a bond of $ 60,000, which the breakdown was able to send on Oct. 17 by the Bail Bond Company, court records obtained by Fox News Digital Show.
After public outcry, prosecutors filed a motion to raise the white bond, arguing for $60,000.
“The current bond amount is inadequate to adequately protect the public from these dangerous and violent criminals,” the DA’s office wrote.

The DA’s office wrote that the 19-year-old’s actions show that he is a “danger to society” and should therefore be behind bars.
However, District Judge Michael Godyiwin rejected the decision to increase the bond, writing that the prosecution had not presented new evidence. Godwin was not the judge who set the white $60,000 Bond.
“The court’s contention with the State’s request is that there is no new or additional information the State has presented to the court that does not constitute a preliminary hearing,” Godwin wrote.

Republican Gov. Kay Ivey previously expressed her concerns in a Facebook post.
“Today, we are learning that one of the four suspects has been released from the streets,” Ivey wrote on Oct. 20 Vote. “

Aniya’s Law was passed in 2019 to honor Aniaya Blannard, who was killed in 2019 by a violent ex-combatant. The law allows judges and prosecutors to request and deny bail for kidnapping, murder, rape and child abuse.
Lawmakers recently passed a law that would add the death penalty to Aniya’s law, but it still needs to be approved by voters in the state.
