This page cricket is dirty The community is mourning the loss of one after a 17-year-old Australian died after being hit in the neck with a football during practice, the country’s governing body for the sport confirmed on Thursday.
Ben Austin was training at Ferntree Gully in East Melbourne on Tuesday when he was hit in the neck with a football. He was taken to hospital in critical condition where he was placed on “advanced life support,” Cricket Australia he said.

He succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday.

“We are completely devastated by Ben’s passing, and the repercussions of his death will be felt by all of our cricket community,” Ferntrene Gully Cricket Club said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family … his friends and to all who knew Ben and the joy he brought.”
Austin’s father also released a statement on Thursday.
“We are completely devastated by the passing of our beautiful Ben, who passed away earlier Thursday morning,” Jace Austin said in a statement. “To Tracey and I, Ben was an honored son, a loving Brother to Cooper and Zach and a bright light in the lives of our family and friends.

“This tragedy has taken Ben from us, but we take solace in the fact that he is doing something he has done for many summers – going down the nets with a couple of partners to play cricket. He loved Cricket and it was one of the joys of his life. “

Austin’s death comes more than 10 years after Cricketer Philip Hughes died in Australia in November 2014, two days after being hit near the ear by a ball. He was 25 years old.
