US retailers cut back on Hershey’s candy ahead of Halloween: Report

American retailers are offering many discounts on herhey products before Halloween as prices have been raised due to prices and prices of cocoa, the data reported.

The news agency said in early October, more than half of Hershey’s candy was removed by one retailer, according to findings from a data provider.

Reuters also pointed to a research note that says Hershey is among 31 food manufacturers tracked by Jeffries, the investment bank, which had the biggest move in volume during the Oct. 4.

The Hershey Company did not immediately respond Thursday to a request for comment via Fox Business.

Discounts were happening like the sale of chocolate units per unit that always ended on Oct. 5, despite prices rising by 8%, said the returers, data showing information from Market Research Commar Cirserana.

Hershey CEO KIRK Tank said on Thursday’s earnings call that the company is recording record Halloween sales and will adjust its strategy from time to time going forward, according to Wall Street magazine.

Meanwhile, the cost of chocolate is almost 30% since last Halloween. That’s up nearly 78% from five years ago, according to Circana and the Bureau of Labor Statistics, while total candy and gum are up 39% since February 2020.

A study by Financingbuzz found that a 100-count bag of assorted candy now costs $16.39, up from $9.19 in 2020.
