With food aid benefits set to expire this Saturday amid the ongoing government shutdown, Doordash announced over the weekend the launch of an “emergency food response” to support those in need throughout November.
In an announcement on Sunday, the food delivery company said it plans to deliver an estimated 1 million meals through 300,000 partners designed to eat in stores and donate food from the convenience store’s online store, Dashmart, to local food banks.
“No one should go hungry in America – period,” Max Rettig, Vice President and Global Head of Public Policy at Dordash, said in a statement.
“Millions of families are worried right now about how they’re going to put food on the table. Fighting hunger is at the top of our mission at Doordash, and we can make a stopgap, not a solution.”

Doordash said it also works with major carriers – including Sprouts, Dollar General, Schnucks, Big Eagle and the delivery fee and service fee of approximately 300,000 Customers simply need to link a Snap / eBT card to their profession when ordering.

“We know that the only effective solution is to ensure that SNAP benefits are fully distributed to those who need food assistance as quickly as possible,” Mitchell said. “We’re grateful that companies and organizations across the country like Doordash can help fill the gap, and we’ll continue to work tirelessly to ensure that SNAP is restored quickly and fully.”
